Day 1 of Gluten Free Living

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Day 1 of being Gluten Free.

I first bought "Gluten Free for Dummies" AFTER I read Jenny McCarthy's book about her son being Autistic. I got it because I was standing in the isle looking at ADD books and her flashy smile and blond hair blue eyed handsome boy stole my attention. I read the back of the book and it got my attention. Looks like a fun read, so I bought it.

It changed a lot of thinking. It wasn't that her son was autistic that got my attention , it is how she FOUGHT for HER son that got my glory. Then to see how she refused to accept simple pills and throwing in the towel to him getting better. She did her own searching. She found that GLUTEN was causing so many of his issues. There were other things that were mentioned, however I don't recall, but I do suggest you read it! It also touched on Leaky Gut Syndrome. But the key that stuck with me is that Gluten was talked over and over about how many are intolerant of it and how many diseases it has been associated with. My cousin is also celiac (not blood ties to me)

So I tossed it around this Gluten free when I was diagnosed with Fibro and and I think I 1/2 ass attempted it.

Yesterday's Dr. appt was a huge eye opener and it was then I realized I need to take control over my health and search what works for me and since so much points to GLUTEN and SUGAR, I am going to ditch GLUTEN for a minimum of 1 mth. And if I have better feelings I will hammer down on my refined sugar. But you must understand that much of refined sugar (FOR ME) comes from bread/wheat. So I will start with the harder of the 2 and the one my gut says to me to go with first (no pun intended)

Now I am blessed with the most awesome husband ever. He is very supportive about ANYTHING that will help me get and feel better. Today he even came home for lunch after stopping at a grocery store and he said he got me a *couple prizes" and sure enough, my sweet guy bought me 2 different types of side dishes that are GLUTEN FREE. I can't tell you how much that meant to me. That is better then Jewelry , flowers, you name it, because support is priceless.

I am making Chick-N-Dumplings for my family (sugar cookies for my boys), I will take out some of the stock (I start with 2 whole) chickens and use the broth/chicken and separate for me then add my rice noodles. I am not a "huge" dumpling person anyways. I like it but it's not like my fave in the world either.

I will talk more about my dr. appt. tomorrow. This is long enough!

Good luck on your gluten free lifestyle. My sister-in-law is living it and I get her items from Trader Joes that she can not get and I have learned to make her fav. dessert using almond meal.
I can understand picking the bigger evil first. Today I have given up Diet Coke and plan to for the month as well. Then I plan to look at my sugar intake. I just got the book Belly Fat Cure.

    BEST of LUCK!!!
