My Grandmother Died Today....
Tuesday, March 02, 2010
and no matter how cognizant I was of what I was doing, it did not stop me from eating to fill the sadness and the hole at the realization that she was 95 years old. My last living grandparent. I feel very mortal today. My Dad would have been 74 this week. She buried two children within six months - one only 9 years younger than me - I had an Uncle THAT young.
God speed Grandma. I love you.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow;
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the quick uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die.
