Thoughts on Reaching One-derland: Thanks SparkPeople!
Friday, April 23, 2010
After 10 months and 21 days of staying focused like a laser beam, I’ve finally reached ONE-derland. It’s thrilling to have reached two major milestones - out of the 200’s and halfway to my final goal. But there’s still a long way to go.
I cannot remember when the scale last registered under 200. When I married, my weight was about 135 - that was 25 years ago. After that, our scale gathered dust until just before I got pregnant with my son which was 13 years ago and the dial pointed to 238. Yikes! Due to extreme morning sickness (which lasted all day) for seven of the nine months, I did not gain weight at all because food wouldn’t stay down. After the little guy arrived, I weighed 202.
That weight loss didn’t last because over the next twelve years, I puffed back up to 265 at my highest point. Approaching 300 lbs. was really frightening. It was also painful to walk even just a block or sleep on my side due to the pressure on my hips. It was also obvious that people treated me differently so I avoided social situations as much as possible. Forget clothes shopping - why bother when you look and feel like a Macy’s balloon!
Today my attitude is so different. I walk with confidence and attend meetings at my son’s school without trying to shrink into the background. Planning meals has become an enjoyable second job for me. Walking three or more miles is no sweat. Exercise is a priority and I miss it when it doesn’t fit into my day. Clothes and make-up are even beckoning me again.
A year ago, I never dreamed I would be down 66 pounds, eating healthy foods, tracking them daily and craving exercise. SparkPeople is truly a blessing!
