What's Working/What's Not

Today is a milestone day! 325 days ago I started my journey to a healthier me.

Today I am 80lbs. lighter!

I have ran over 328 miles in training for a half marathon since December!

I have gained muscle, confidence and tons of energy!

In many ways my life is just starting!

My initial goal was to lose 90 lbs. in 12 months.

I don't mind that I will not likely make my goal, I am much closer than I would have been had I said that 90lbs. is too much weight to lose. I started believing I could do it, if I put my mind to it.

I'm leading a lifestyle I've only dreamed of! I love it! I love being me!

For me to continue to succeed, I have to stop at various milestones along the way to see what is working, what is not and where I want to go. I fail if I do not make a plan to succeed.

I only have 10 days until my half marathon. During my taper and my recovery, I will need to cut my calories back to match my activity level.

I need to set my next challenge to focus on and train for it. I have a couple 5k's on my calendar and will be doing speed work to improve my race times. My next big challenge is a duathlon in October. It's a 5k run, 20k bike rice, 5k run. So the bicycle training is the perfect cardio to replace some of my current running miles.

I only have 4 more sessions with my personal trainer before she graduates from the University. I will miss her so much. She has been with me for almost 9 mths. of my journey. She cannot be replaced. To continue my workouts and my progress, I will continue to lift weights and use the interval training programs I have in place.

What is working? ME! I work out! I work hard!

What is not working? Weight in challenges! Why do I do that to myself? I get so caught up in being part of a team and the people on the team that I love. But, the check ins and the weigh ins don't work for me. I'm a busy girl. I love being active. I don't like remembering to check in with every team about my weigh in or activity.

My nutrition is on! I love my clean whole foods! I love the way I feel when I eat good foods.

What is not working . . . remembering to track it on Spark. I do count calories and follow a plan, I just don't fill in the chart. I did soooo need that tool when I started and I'm soooo glad for all the tools here on Spark and occasionally when my nutrition needs change, I need to revisit these tools.

What's working? I love blogging and reading some awesome blogs by some killa chicks and kick butt guys! I love responding to comments and questions. Having the time to comment on the activities of my friends here. That is the most important part of this community to me.

What's not working? Back to the number of team commitments I have made. There are only three teams that I am actively involved in and I love them. I've met some awesome friends on these teams. I don't want to quit any of my teams because I love the friends I have there. However, I need to discipline myself to not join anymore teams and to weed out ones that I am not active in.

So, here we go! I'm ready for the next 40 days of my one year journey.

Keep being healthy and well the highest priority. Drop anything that gets in the way of those priorities. If it ever comes down to getting in a good run or writing about a good run . . . I will be running! Love ya warriors! Battle on!

    I always enjoy reading what you have to say. You are a great source of support for me. Your journey is awesome kiddo! Such a transformation. As you know, there are no tricks or magic pills to lose weight and get healthy. You have done it the old fashion way - hard work and determination.

    You have inspired me to take another look at my own goals and dreams. I have been slacking a bit and haven't lost any weight, just gaining and losing the same 3-5 pounds since January. Obviously, something isn't working!

    you are doing amazing! It is so hard to keep up with 1 team actively for me, I can't imagine adding more. LOL I love this site, but some days it seems like a chore to make sure and check in when I'm pressed for time...all things in moderation and I'm sure you'll find the right balance for you! Keep up the great work!

    Love it! Glad you aren't upset about not meeting your goal, I set one too that doesn't seem likely that I will meet and at first I was sad, but then I realized that I've come so far! Who cares if it takes me an extra month to get to my goal weight!! You are AWESOME! :D

    I absolutely love your analogies of your journey! We are so alike in that I am on too many teams, too many challenges, not enough time, etc. I try really hard to journal on SP, but I do better just having it on paper than logging it on the SP journal. There are days I don't have the opportunity to even get to SP nutrition or fitness. The past 2 days, I was sickly and today am just trying to get caught up. I love to read the blogs and comments by some of my favorite SP bloggers and they are my motivation to keep on truckin'! I just have to find that fine line like with the "what works and what doesn't". At the moment, I'm working on becoming almost vegan and that takes some getting used to as well. Then I'm about to delve into running again. I haven't made up my mind completely yet, but I'll get there. I've got to get back to what I love and that is triathlon and running, but I have so many other fun things I want to play around with.

    We shall see what the next few months bring.

    You have accomplished so much in less than one year. Impressive. I understand needing to assess and evaluate once in a while. I'm thinking about that right now. My spark friends are fabulous, but some of my teams aren't. My friends encourage and inspire me. I also love the blogs. My blog friends are my favorites. I had trainers for 3 years and just started working without them about 6 months ago. It took me a while, but I am now working out much harder and more often on my own. It is possible to do it yourself. Especially with spark friends.

    emoticon Simply amazing! I'm so proud of you, 80 lbs! Let me say that again, 80 lbs! I have had a total of 53 lbs to lose, I had lost 14 lbs but them just gained 1.5 lbs back this week after I hit a two week plateau. You make us all proud and you are an inspiration to all of us.

    Oh you are so incredible! Did you ever think you would be into running? Let alone races, and all the lingo? I am laughing, not at you, but in terms of myself...I am still in the walking phaze, and wonder if I can or will take the leap to eventually be running...IN my younger yrs (late 30's) I was able to do a slow jog of 6 miles a day, of course I was running from an ass of a husband, then I would do anything to get out of the house...LOL

    I too had made a goal of losing 95 pounds in 12 months, I don't think I will make that, but I'm not unhappy..I am soooo happy with spark even though it's taken me 3 1/2 months to loose almost 20 pounds, I know these pounds are not coming back.

    I loved your blog, and you really are in tune with things. I am pretty sure you know what to eat by now and what calories you are taking in, and I also applaud you for your honesty about team challenges and wiegh in's. I feel the same way, my menapausel body has it's own journey too, and I have lost as much as 3 pounds in one week, and as long as 4 weeks at the same wt, I don't need all that stress of where and when. I will just keep doing what I do, becuase that's what's good for me..
