It's here!!! It's here!!! I can't believe I am in the final week leading up to my half marathon.
I registered for this half marathon in October 2009. I couldn't even run a mile at the time!
I remember very clearly the day in January when I ran my first 4 mile run! I hooted and hollered! I called everyone I know, posted it on facebook, and here on Spark. It felt like a huge accomplishment!
I registered as a runner and stuck with the training plan for new runners. It was exciting to see as each week went by, I was able to gradually increase my mileage and actually looked forward to my long runs.
Long runs were quite the event around our house. I'm not fast, my shorter runs were averaging a 12:30 pace. Long runs were averaging a 13:00-13:30 pace as the distance became longer the pace rate went down. So, Saturday was the only day that our schedule allowed that chunk of time that it took to prepare to go for my long run, execute it and recover from it.
Recovery. Wow! Some of those long runs really took it out of me. I would need a nap every Saturday afternoon. Once I peaked, my body adjusted to the demands of the long run and the requirements for rest. I was able to enjoy my long runs, get some grocery shopping done and do a little cooking in the afternoons.
This is a big deal for me. I have trained for this singular event for 7 months. My cross training was all geared toward improving my performance for this race. My nutrition has been based on what would help me perform at my best. Every decision I've made has been weighed. I'd ask "Will this help me work toward my goal?" "Will this hurt my efforts?" I chose to temporarily give up my roller skating hobby, for fear that a fall would set me back and not give me time to recover in time for my race.
So, here we go! It's the count down!
On Thursday I am having a pasta party at work!
Friday morning my husband and I will head to Indianapolis
Friday at 11:00 I am getting a Thai Yoga Massage!!!!!!!! Ooooo I can't wait!
