hyperemesis gravidarum in pregnancy

Monday, May 03, 2010

I have a family member who has been diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (not sure of the spelling, it's a complication of pregnancy). This is excessive vomiting (much worse than regular morning sickness), losing weight, and staying dehydrated. If you or anyone you know has had this condition, will you please get in touch with me? We need support and help in any way possible. Thank you.

a few more tips...gatorade may help, eating bread/toast every hour or two. Sometimes reg. tea, or green tea with a little milk can help, not for everyone. Ginger tea has been said to help. I also had cream cheese on the bagel which would stick with me. Stay away from anything creamy, such as yogurt, sherbet, some people can tolerate ice cream, it depends. Shakes can help add pounds lost when the stomach has became more settled. If I think of anything else I let you know.

Kat, I had almost the same thing, for one, you have to try to find things that she might be able to keep down, and eat as often as every hour, the stomach can not get empty. For me I found I could stomach a chocolate chip bagel every am, but I was still throwing up 10-12 times a days, even in labor. But if you can get a little nutrition in, iv therapy, meds??? I hope something will help. emoticon emoticon Inga

I have seen this condition a lot. If I can provide you with any information, please feel free to SparkMail me. It can be a real problem, but there are some fairly good ways to manage it.
