Food Blog #8 - Pursue Passion

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Well, I finished up a jewelry order today and packed it up to be shipped out! I've been making jewelry during my lunch hour and after my workouts to try to fill in the gaps that my full time job does not cover. How does this pertain to my weight loss/healthy lifestyle journey? Well, it applies in two ways (maybe three). First, the past year has been such an eye opener for me in so many ways. I realized that I had limited myself. I was not setting goals in any area of my life. I had settled for merely existing. Believe me, my inner self was fighting this and telling me I was suffocating the life out of myself. When I had to go to work full time, I tried to keep up with my creative pursuits that were just starting to pay off. I found it to be too much and had to turn away some business. But, once I started waking up to the fact that I was not LIVING, I was only existing . . . filling a position to receive a paycheck, my life started changing. I wanted to dream big, I wanted to enjoy life, every day! Now that I have that in my life, I want to translate that back into my creative pursuits and set a goal to leave my desk job in the next 12 - 15 months. I want to go back to making my beautiful jewelry and teaching yoga. My two passions that unlock my creativity and allow me to express myself.

The second way this pertains to my health/weightloss, is that I need the funds generated by my sales to purchase a new wardrobe! I know this is a good problem to have, but when the budget is tight, a new pack of underwear and a belt to hold up pants that are two sizes to big is all I can afford. I can find decent things to wear at Goodwill and one of you sweet spark friends reminded me that consignment shops usually have a lot of nicer things in the smaller sizes!!! YAY!

The third way this maybe pertains is that I am happier and feel more balanced when I am creating special things for my clients. I love to hear them when they receive their package. It is a fabulous moment. And teaching yoga just feeds my soul in a way that nothing else does. I love that feeling. When I am speaking to women about how to nurture and appreciate their bodies, I am speaking to the woman in me and I am healed.

Okay, creating jewelry and teaching yoga are only two of my passions! The third is FOOD! I love creating delicious foods and fun combinations. I hardly ever follow a recipe verbatim. I've never created the same dish the same way for my family in 23 yrs. I love creating from scratch with basic, clean ingredients.

Today is a medium carb day

Steel Cut Oats + Sunflower Seed Butter + Chopped Apple = MMMMMM!

1 egg white + 1 whole egg scrambled + salsa

Whites of 3 eggs hardboiled (had to get the rest of my protein in and I was out of fresh eggs)

Chocolate Protein Shake w/ colombian instant coffee blended in.
**Thank you to my spark friends who drew my attention to some warnings about some protein powders. The brand that I use is of good quality and I will not be having protein shakes on a daily basis for much longer. I do so appreciate your concern for my health and well being. Knowledge is power. Thank you***

Canned Salmon + White Beans + Red Pepper + Artichoke Hearts + Olive Oil
(This was supposed to have been tuna in a whole wheat pita pocket. I was out of tuna so I substitute one protein serving for another. I am also trying to stay away from processed foods as much as possible, so I added 1/2 cup white beans). Create something fabulous!

Snack! Peanut Butter Choc. Protein Bar + 1/2 Protein Shake = Perfect afternoon snack!

Extra Lean Ground Beef + Broccoli + Onions + Brown Rice
(Oops! I was not supposed to have brown rice here. But, I came in from a tough workout and didn't look at my menu.)

I will end my night with a protein shake.

I have added two 40 minute cardio sessions to my workout week. I got up at 5:30 a.m. (not a morning person) and went to the gym to use the elliptical. After work I hit the gym again to work out with my trainer. He is tough. Legs night! Squats, adduction, abduction, leg press, leg curl, walking lunges with a 12# medicine ball twisting to the side, some kind of squat side shuffle thing while holding the 12# medicine ball over my head, more sumo squats while holding the ball over my head and then we ended the legs workout with 10 minutes on the stairmill. I'm feeling it! And we did it all in a circuit to keep my heart rate up for the whole hour. I think 1/2 cup of brown rice with my dinner may have been okay after all!!!

I'll sign off tonight with some pictures of the lovely things I sent out today.

Tiny Sterling Silver on Silk Thread

Have a great night friends! Creating something beautiful in your life today! Live a life worth living, full of passion, fun, friends, family and fabulous foods!

Wearing one of my favorite jewelry creations with a dainty rose I reclaimed from on old broach that was broken.

Edited to add food stats:
Cals: 1,738
Carbs: 106 (ha! ended up in the range I needed it, even with the rice)
Fats: 71
Protein: 177

Hey dear one...great blog...and I'm happy that we gave you the 'heads up' on the protein powder...actually it came from our dear Sparkpeople so they deserve all the credit...and the jewelry...well you know me and jewelry...I always admire another artist's talent...the chockers are stellar! Hugs to you and have a fab career...I think jewelry and yoga go together like love and marriage! emoticon They are both so zen...and you have to come from a place of peace to tap into that creativity. I've never found anything that makes me happier than the creative process! emoticon

Great blog! I work in an office setting, but love it when I have time to be creative outside of work. I want a small studio when I retire so I can focus on the things that feed my soul. You're necklaces look great. I do some beading, but have really enjoyed working with wire and metals over the last few years. It's hard to fit it all in, but I love it when I make time to create something beautiful. Take care!

OH Carolyn, I absolutely love the choker type necklace....I'd love to purchase one of your pieces or several. Would you create one of these pieces for me and let me know how much and I will send you a check? Do you have a website or link?

I am so glad you are getting back to some of your passions. It's a wonderful feeling when you have some sort of peacefulness about you and are able to do the thinks you love...I so want to get there as well.

Catching up on some blogs and then gonna start blogging again soon myself just to reassess my sanity. Thanks for writing great blogs that inspire me.

    Love ya gal!

    Ps. I'm serious about the jewelry....I especially love the 2nd, 3rd and 4th one...hint...hint!

You and your jewelry are both beautiful! I would love to get into make jewelry, but that would have to come after getting back into my scrapbooking and sewing, LOL!

Thanks for reminding me that I need to live. I do make lists every day, but most of the things never get crossed off. If they did, then maybe I would have time to pursue my passions. I need to work on this.

You definitely have a talent and gift for making jewelry! beautiful!! I was wondering about your comment about protein powders though! I seem to remember reading something, but can't think of where it was!? Did you make the protein bar? and shake? or are they bought? Anything chocolate... I love!

    Thanks for sharing!

You have a gift with jewelry making. :) This is an excellent blog, & you've inspired me to get working on my crochet & other creative endeavours that've slowly slipped to the wayside, even though there's no real reason for it. Thank-you for this entry. :)

Beautiful jewelry and really good looking food. You are talented on so many levels! The getting up early to exercise is very impressive, I am sooo not a morning person but I think I'm going to have to work on this. I'm always making excuses after work not to work out so I'm gonna just have to bite the bullet and get it out of the way in the morning. That's my next goal...bleah :). Have a great weekend!!!
