Summertime and Gardens of All Kinds

Monday, June 21, 2010

Well, I must say I have been keeping myself, hubby, friends and relatives happy this year with our bountiful garden!

Starting with amending the soil, hoeing up rows to plant, planting, weeding, fertilizing, weeding, watering~LOL

The rewards are being reaped!

Wonderful almost sweet squash, zucchini. Cukes out the wazoo! Watermelon beginning to sprout (cannot wait!)

Oh I didn't mention along with tomatoes all the peppers, red, green, cayenne, jalapeƱo...pico de gallo here I come!!

Tried to use a natural remedy for some sort of bug in the garden and the ammonia that was a part of the "remedy" killed the leaves on the zucchini and darnit I still saw some of the bugs altho not as many- GOOD!

Now around back I have a patio garden with strawberries and container tomatoes so I can just reach out and enjoy at my whim~LOL!

Oh I do love summer months with the long daylight hours, fresh chemical free produce and the fun of playing in the dirt! Only problem in late afternoon and early evening are the "skeeters" Hmmm...perhaps next year a lemon garden of herbs and lemon plants to accompany the rest! I have never tried that but am willing to learn!

Oh...one more garden of ours with a friend peeping out to watch me...dear Jae...these photos are for you!!

AWESOME! Tomatoe worm tried helping itself to our tomato plant in a day's time did a good job of snipping almost an entire plant! Found the rascal though and did him in! hoping the plant will make a comeback!

Have 2 tiny green peppers and so far harvested a dozen tomatoes.

Blackberries are finished around here ... were great while they lasted!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Your garden is beautiful. I tried a garden for the first time this year too - it's so much fun to watch it grow and then the biggest bonus is all the fresh veggies. What is the ammonia treatment - I have not heard of that.

Love all the pictures - thanks for sharing.

Oh, Ellen ~ How I wish I could sit by your water garden & watch your "friend" & visit with you!!!! Your garden is beautiful!!!! We have had way too much rain, storms & then awful 100+ heat for our garden to do much of anything!! I planted what were supposed to be sweet banana peppers, but they are the right color, but are small & shaped like a bell pepper!! the skins are kinda tough, but have a nice sweet taste!! they are producing pretty good!! Have had about 3 red tomatoes out of the garden!! Every year I cook one batch of fried green tomatoes & eggplant for Jim with the first fruits of the garden!! They were GREAT!!!! But oh so fattening.....but oh so good!!!! LOL LOL!!!! I was good & only had a couple of slices!!!! I thought of you when we were eating!!!! LOL!!!! LOVE the pics!!!!

Awesome garden. Looks like if I lived close, you could share some fresh veggies with me. I miss having a garden, or at least when I worked, co workers would bring in veggies to share. Nothing like fresh picked from the garden. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy the veggies.
