Day 88 - Walking to running

Wow what a summer! So far the heat hasn't been that bad (knock on wood.) I hate hot summers. I guess it doesn't help that I overheat so easily. Anyhoo. I've been working hard on my works outs. Even though it's only a half hour to a hour a day, better than nothing.

I guess I wanted to give myself an update today of what I accomplished. When I got my booty back on the treadmill 3 months ago I tried to do half and half of walking and running. But I found myself very winded after a few minuets of running. So I settled with walking at 3.5 mph with 6% incline. It worked well, I was sweating after every workout. Today I wanted to try something different. I wanted to run again like I did 2 years ago. I wanted to see if I could do it. So I turned the incline down to 1% and turned up the speed to 5.2mph. I also wanted to give myself a goal of only 1 mile. This is the first time I've done this in awhile so I didn't want to over do it. So as I was running along I couldn't believe how much better I felt. My breathing was better, my chest didn't feel like I was having a heart attack! I was going a steady pace and felt fine. When I got a little pass half a mile my legs started to burn and my knees felt a little wabbley. But I could keep going. Then I got to a mile. Yay! It felt wonderful. Like I accomplished a small goal. And I would of kept going but my knees couldn't handle it. And I tried my best to stand tall, heel - toe and land lightly on my feet. But I think it hurts because this was my 1st try. But boy my legs burned, even now!

I look forward to running my work outs now. Though I still enjoy listening to my music and takein it easy on my walks.
