Binging, celebrating, and a new hair cut

Sunday, July 11, 2010

I had one heck of a weekend! As the title suggests, I binged, celebrated, and got a new hair cut, not to mention a bunch of other things.

Saturday was my grandma's 102nd birthday party. She won't officially turn 102 until Wednesday, but the woman has a big family, and it's much easier to gather it together on a weekend. At 25, I'm the youngest of grandma's 37 grandchildren. The party was big, but it was even bigger and better at her 100th b-day. Now that I live in another state, I appreciate these celebrations more because it gives me a chance to see all of my family again.

The day started out pretty badly, though. I rode down to PA early with my sister. We were gonna spend some time with my mom while we were in town. Unfortunately, both my sister and I and even my hubby go into binge mode once we enter my mom's house, because it's always stocked full of junk food. My mother, bless her, is a very out of control eater and is therefore really overweight. I've tried to help her get motivated, but I guess it's not what she wants right now.

Anyway, as soon as my sister and I entered my mom's house, we started shoving food into our faces. Candy, chips, crackers with canned cheese, cake, cookies. Anything we could grab, we were eating like crazy. Eventually, I got myself under control, but my sister just kept going. It was kind of scary to watch her. If I look anything like her when I'm binging, it's a pretty bad sight.

Grandma's party was at a Chinese buffet that I loooved at a teenager. I actually managed to control myself there, and only ate about half a plate full of lo mein noodles, stir fried veggies and cheese wontons. I finished with a plate of fruit. It felt good to eat something fresh and juicy after all the fattening, heavy food I'd been eating.

Well, today I've been lazing around the house mostly, getting in contact with some of my family members on facebook (who would have thought aunt Nancy would be there?). After a while, hubby got bored, so we went out. We got some veggie seeds on sale, and then I managed to convince him to go get his hair trimmed. While I was waiting for him to get done, I decided to go with the flow and got my hair done, too. I've had the same hair cut (if you can call it a cut) for the last, geeze, 13 years. It was super long, almost to my belly button, and all the same length. I really liked it, but I also knew that all that extra hair was weighing down my naturally curly hair. So I got some shorter layers, and now it's so curly and cute! I just love it. It definitely fits in with the way I feel about myself these days.

So it was a long weekend, but it was good.
