The Boat Garden with a picture

This will give you a true look inside my mind. I have had a vision of this for years and it took a few to get to the point of planting. I have a split backyard with a water way going through the middle of it. There is a pond that is only fit for wildlife and then a woody area between the waterways and the river.
My son had an old boat that was not of much use to him anymore that he left when he moved out. I would sit in my backyard and look at that boat and think I want to paint that, fill it with dirt and then plant in it. Last year was our first planting year and I learned early that even in a raised boat the critters will find a way. We planted mostly herbs and vegetables and not many made it. I even put fencing along the top of the boat.
This year I decided to try mostly flowers. I did include sage and lavender as they were left alone last year. Most of the flowers have done real well. There was one that I really wanted badly in the boat, the sunflower, that has been eaten from up and over the top of the fencing. It had to be a deer. I have tried sprays and other ways of keeping things away, but it doesn’t seem to work completely.
I have always said that my gardens are a work in progress. I plant things helter skelter and then move them as needed. It keeps things interesting in my gardening world.
