out of reach

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

I just got back from the back surgeon's office. I had expected to come home with a treatment plan and a date for the first surgery.

Instead I came home in blinding pain with his words ringing in my ears:

"With a spine like yours, there is nothing available in current technology that can help you...I'm sorry."

I know he was sorry.
He hugged me with tears in his eyes and stayed with me until I got control of the tears that insisted on spilling down my face.

There's really nothing else to say.

Actually, this was probably my fifth or sixth opinion - the latest in a long series of doctors...They have all basically said the ssme thing: that the damage is so severe and so widespread throughout all of the vertebrae that surgery is not an option--and they can't think of any other option either. And with each successive MRI, the damage is visibly worse...

Eight or ten years ago doctors told me my spine was hopeless - that there was nothing they could do. I was told to give up gardening, and for a long time I just wouldn't. But, after awhile I got tired of screaming in pain after every time I gardened, and I mostly gave it up. Ever since then my back pain in tolerable, and the (other) symptoms I had from the back nerves being impinged have mostly let up. Still, I do have to be careful, but I seldom have pain to any real extent any more. According to the doctors I should have been in a wheelchair years ago, but I'm not. I know my back hasn't improved, but I consider it a miricle that I don't live in that kind of pain any more.

I would seek another opinion before taking this as a final decision. There has to be something out there to alleivate your pain and solve the problem. I will keep you in my prayers.

CYNTHIA----I'm so sorry for your trouble-------I can only offer prayer----but prayer can create miracles.
I saw that someone had mentioned Acupuncture---It IS a valid alternative. I would look into it if I were you!----My BIL swears by it.-----But then---as the ole Mama's expression --"It wouldn't help--it wouldn't hurt!! Do take care---The team is with you!!

I will say one thing and that is I will say a prayer for you,.the power of prayer is so amazing and I hope it helps you. It's worth a try.I have heard acupuncture has an amazing high success rate. Most insurances doesn't pay for it,something to look into.I am sorry the doctors in this day still have no solutions to these conditions. emoticon Diana emoticon emoticon emoticon
