I eat when I'm tired

Tuesday, December 07, 2010

Something I've noticed in my weight loss journey is that when I'm really tired, either because I haven't slept or because I've been doing something physically exhausting, I EAT. And I usually go right for the worst food I can find.

Like yesterday. We had a huge amount of snow dumped on us overnight, so I worked for an hour shoveling out the driveway. I came in totally exhausted, and couldn't resist the red velvet cupcakes. I had one and decided that I'd put the rest in the freezer so I couldn't eat any more.

Then I had a frozen cupcake.

So I think from now on, I'm going to try focusing on taking a nap when I'm tired, rather than eating. It's way more satisfying anyway.

I do exactly the same thing. There are weeks when I have to work long, irregular hours. They're diet killers! Junk food is just a few rooms away & it talks to me. What can you do to fight the monster when taking a nap is not in the cards?

I went through the kitchen and took out enticing food. I really like good food and try to have quick snacks on hand so that when I need to eat after exercise or work there is something there. Right now it's sugar free frozen fudge pops. 30 cal and tasty. I also find that part of the reason I am hungry is that I am thirsty from sweating away. So the first thing I reach for is a bottle of water.

I do that. Being tired is my number one overeating/poor choice catalyst.
If I don't sleep well I can almost guarantee myself I'll overeat. And I crave things like pizza, pop, chocolate etc.

If it's close to bed time and I have to choose between working out and getting to bed on time, the workout loses.!

I find that I do that as well. Somehow, we think it's BAD to take a nap when we're tired (or at least take a break and rest) but it's OK to eat something we don't really want or need.

I find myself (usually between 3-5 p.m.) asking myself "Are you hungry or are you tired?"

If I answer myself that I'm tired, I take a short nap.

    Best to you!
