Please Light a Candle at 7PM tonight
Sunday, December 12, 2010
Tonight is the Fourteenth Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting – light a candle in your home at 7 PM in memory of the children gone too soon.
The Compassionate Friends is a self help group for bereaved parents. This is a group that no one wants to belong too, but those of us that do are glad it exists. It has given me an outlet to help me live after the death of my oldest son. You can believe me when I say at the beginning I did not want to live without him in my life.
Our local chapter has a candle light service tonight to coincide with the National one, which falls on the second Sunday of December. I’m the newsletter editor and treasury for our local chapter and have put some time into the invitations and programs for tonight’s event. My youngest son is also reading the Sibling credo during the ceremony so it will be extra special for me to attend.
After yesterday’s stomach bug I had little doubt I would make it tonight. However, I have kept down some toast and tea and think I’m on the mend. That bug took me off my feet. I can’t even believe how much I slept yesterday.
So please light a candle for our children at 7PM tonight. The idea is that if a candle is lit in every time zone then there will be a light shining for 24 hours in memory of our children.
