Goals or resolutions? Does it matter what we call them?

Saturday, January 01, 2011

I think it is a good idea to evaluate our lives and for some people that happens at New Years more than any other time of the year. I've never been a huge resolution person, but have always thought about little things to improve at this time of year. Since joining SparkPeople last February goals have been an important factor and they are not much different than resolutions. Here is the short and sweet for my upcoming year.

My goals for 2011 are to continue on my Healthier lifestyle change - Both mental and physical. I have found the mental part to be so important. I will lose weight, continue to exercise and participate in SparkPeople. I will log my nutrition and stay with the calorie range suggested for losing. I will log my fitness and change my routines so as not to allow my body the ability to get use to what I'm doing.

I will succeed!

emoticon I think life is always evolving and we should always be rechecking and changing - not waiting for a certain time of year. Thank you so much for finding me when I reappeared on the Spark scene and for being such a positive influence!

    Goals are WAY better!

Resolutions have too long a history of collectively failing to sustain them...I think the word even connotes failure...I'll take a goal ANYTIME! :-)

Speaking of which: you've got some GREAT goals for yourself!

You have always have such a good attitude and wisdom. I also wanted to thank you for the kind words on my lengthy New Years blog. 2010 may have been a challenge, but many blessings happened and many things were improved. 2011 will bring new challenges and new blessings.

Nope, doesn't matter. As Shakepeare wrote, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." Wishing you the best in 2011.

I've never been big on resolutions either, but goals are good and necessary, and I guess when it comes down to it, they are much the same. But resolutions seem to be made to be broken. Goals are more flexible and forgiving. If you fail in a resolution, it seems broken and unfixable. If you fall short of a goal, you pick up and go on and adjust goals if you need to. Great plan. I've thought back over 2010 and blogged about it, but still contemplating the looking forward. I know I need to do it, but my mind seems so fixed on 2010. Somehow I need to get past it and move ahead. I'll get there, I may just be a bit slower than some.

I agree....I really don't make resolutions, but I do take the new year to reflect on the past years successes (and pat myself on the back for those!), and also look at what needs improving in my family life, business life and spiritual walk, and then set goals rather than make resolutions. That's what works for me. Resolutions are a "all or nothing" approach and seems to set me up for failure more than anything.

    Happy 2011 to All!

Resolutions to me are things I have to start doing today and are absolute. Goals are things I start working towards today and continue until met but can also be re-evaluated and adjusted. I like goals so much better. But whatever we call them I like yours,.

    Happy New Year!
