I do a lot of reading about health and fitness. I like to stay on top of what the 'fitness industry' is selling. I also read a lot of health and fitness research and studies as well as some psychology behind what drives leaders to be leaders. One that I read recently, I have actually recommended to a a couple people, The Fatloss Solution. (SORRY! THIS WAS THE WRONG TITLE!!!! IT IS THE BODY FAT SOLUTION by Tom Venuto. (had to come back in and correct this) The reason I like this one is it is not about fab diets, gimmicks or quick fixes. A good 70% of the book talks about human behavior, psychology and how to overcome obstacles.
The book I am currently reading, Body by Design, is an okay book. I can't say it is the best I have ever read. I prefer The Fatloss Solution. Body by Design has a lot of good points by they really push the social network that they represent. Believe me, I do know that there is power in social network media. I have benefited greatly from blogging my way healthy and strong and sharing my progress pictures on Facebook. I have meet some awesome people who I share a lot of my goals, dreams and aspirations with.
Sorry, I got of track there. One of the points in Body by Design is the idea of Prime Time, or priming your mind to succeed. It is a mental exercise to set you up for the best possible outcome.
The first step of Prime time is to recognize your self-defeating statements. The of the statements you use to describe yourself. I've heard them, read them and probably said them. You know the words . . . fat, lazy, never going to get fit, hate my body, I can't, I won't, I don't , etc. The idea is that you limit yourself and prevent yourself from succeeding when you think this way. If you think I'll never get a flat tummy, or no matter what I do my muffin top will not disappear. How motivated to you feel to get your tummy in shape with that thought process. How strong will your resolve be to pass up pizza or chocolate if you believe "I'll never get my tummy in shape"? You will start to get an attitude of who cares? It's easy for others. These things never work out for me no matter what I do. And results are directly related to actions which are directly related to our attitude about our actions.
When you feel like you are incapable of achieving something, your commitment to achieving it is weakened, so when you come up against adversity or temptation, you will feel that you have no reason to resist, since you have set such low expectations for yourself. This kind of thinking is self defeating.
To prime your thinking towards success, you have to shift your thoughts from ones that keep you stuck in negative cycles to ones that perpetuate positive thinking. Statements like I can create healthy habits, I'm going to get fit, I love my body, I will built a stronger healthier body.
The next step in priming your mind, is to train it to focus on possibilities and positive words with power. Words like 'strive' and 'success' 'perseverance' 'motivation' these and so many other powerful words fuel motivation. I believe this to be true. I do not talk about myself or others in a negative light and I tend to not look at obstacle, but always find opportunities. My motto is a powerful primer, it is full of these type of words "Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Fierce and Be Fabulous". I figure if I don't believe in my dreams and in myself, how in the world do I expect other to believe in me, encourage me and support my ideas?
Examine your vocabulary. When you feel like 'others' are holding you back or keeping your down . . . stop and ask yourself if it is really others or is it your own doubts, fears and insecurities. Focus on your strengths and they will become even more powerful. If you only focus on your weaknesses, you are selling yourself short and may miss out on realizing how very strong you really are. I believe in you. You have the ability to do great things. You have the ability to inspire, motivate and encourage others just by being brave enough to boldly live your life out loud and passionate pursue your hearts desire.
Since this is part of my count down I need to check in with you about my progress!

Exercise! Amazing! I trained a client tonight! I loved it! She did things she never even thought of doing and found out she liked it! She gave me a big hug afterward and told me thank you. After I worked out with her, I did my lifting session. I'm getting stronger! Upper body weights were increased by 5# for the first 2 sets, then I had to lighten up for the 3rd set. Lower body was increased by 10#, wow! I'm going to feel those deadlifts in the morning!
