Too Restless to Rest...

Well...it will officially end here today I guess. I challenged myself to follow along with John "The Penguin" Bingham's 100 Days of Exercise Challenge back in January. I wanted to go as far as I could, but in the back of my mind I knew eventually I would likely have to back off when I started HM training. I am in my 2nd week of training now and to avoid injury, I know now is the time to back off. I am inclined to be very disappointed in myself, very hard on myself....but I know this is for the best and I logically know I did not quit....I have exercised consistently now for 58 days straight with at least 30 min. each day, but most an hour or sometimes more. Now is the time to start utilizing my rest days to stay healthy....especially with my foot and knees not at their best. So today is rest....and all it has done is make me ridiculously restless...oh the irony,lol. I think I will do yoga though...that seems to help EVERYthing. I will be continuing with my strength training plan 2x/week and continue to push harder there as I progress. That and the yoga seem to be perfect partners with my walk/run training. Just trying to keep it all in perspective I guess : ) Something exciting I just found out about...they are going to have a Mud Run in my neck of the woods(first ever) and I am stoked about that....has anyone done one? I am going to scrimp and save so I can kick up some mud, sounds sooo fun....I really want to do a Warrior Dash, but that will likely be next year when I am closer to goal and can save funds to travel. Well...I'm off to...rest...hmmpphh,lol.

    58 days is GREAT... and don't be disappointed.. you have a BIGGER goal of the HM!! A very worthy reason to back off... way cool.. you'll have to keep me up to date on your mud run.. sounds dirty! LOL

    You're smart to realize that you do need rest days. I have read that rest is when our bodies do the adapting to make actual improvements (or something like that). Neat, huh?

    I am doing the Warrior Dash in July! It's coming to North Bend, WA which is just down the road from Seattle! I've never done it before, but love stuff like that, especially the idea of running through mud! Lol!

    I know how you feel about rest... I'm not a big fan. I LOVE to exercise, and I do it 6 days a week. Maybe this would work for you... I do 4 or 5 heavier days (ST or cardio or both), and 1 or 2 lighter days (where I generally just walk or yoga, but for less time). I have real knee issues too, so I can't run, but I do walk a lot and I count it as cardio. I do mostly DVD workouts with Bob or Jillian right now. Thinking about P90X later in the spring.

    My rest day is funny. It's always on Tuesday because that is my busiest day otherwise. It's the day when I would have trouble squeezing in 60 minutes to work out... So I'm tired and run off my feet anyway!

    Rest is SO important here. It's difficult to accept, but so important.
    I'm assuming the HM = half-marathon??
    You've done them before, right? Or one? My memory is so bad when I don't keep up with you ladies! :o) Totally my fault.
    But I can speak from current experience...HM training is NO JOKE!! I had to do 10 miles yesterday and hit my first ever wall. Oh, it's brutal!! And your body needs to rest simply to recover from the stress you're putting it through. As we get older, I'm finding it more necessary to rest ... my joints are aching! (and I'm not 30 yet....5 more months)
    Train smart. Rest smart. :o) And yes, yoga's a good thing!
    I'm off tomorrow and plan to do some. I'm looking forward to how my body will change, getting more flexible and not having those aches and pains I've been having. Youre reminder the other day about yoga being so beneficial smacked me back into realizing I need to get back into it, too.
    Keep it up! You're doing great.

    You are so smart to recognize that you need the rest. And, while that 100 days may have been a great goal 58 days ago, you are not the same person. Kudos to you for listening to your body.
