The Moon's Lore and Lure

Sunday, March 20, 2011

The moon was, as most people know, the closest to the earth that it gets last night...the closest that it has been in the past 19 years in fact!

Where was I the last time the moon was this large??
I was rapidly approaching the final month of my first and only pregnancy and was as huge as a house. And do I recall the Super Moon's arrival the last time around? I vaguely recall being in my car and being astounded by this moon...telling my father about it the next day, and then having him inform me about this phenomenon.

I love the moon.
My name MEANS "moon goddess" ...it being one of the alternative names for Artemis the goddess of the moon.

It is no small coincidence that the word "lunatic" is also derived from the moon! The moon is associated with the tides of the oceans, the "tides" of a woman's monthly cycle, for artistic inspiration...and yes, for an increase in "madness"...Any school teacher or admissions officer for a psych ward can tell you of the increased activity and "acting out" during the full moon...People are more creatively inspired...and more unstable during this phase of the moon's cycle...
So--Beware! and Enjoy!

Thanks for the lessons. In the home of a barrister we try to ignore a ringing phone when the moon is full. This moon really brought out the lunatics in full form. Thanks for the lunar lesson. You can't remember what you did this morning but remember the moon from 18 years ago? You have a mind like a steel trap. LOL

The moon was absolutely gorgeous last night.

I have a friend who is a former correction officer, and she used to say the same thing about full moons. emoticon

"Cynthia" is such a beautiful name.

And your new profile picture is beautiful too: such dignity, grace, and acceptance.

The full moon here was glorious last night -- I had hoped for a moonlight cross country ski but there was not enough snow.

Not too hard to accept because we too are edging towards spring: love your new daffodil wallpaper!!

    So true So true!
I work with Multiple Disabilities Students and every full moon effects them; THIS one even more so! Even the staff(myself included) were a bit more "lunny" than usual. LOL
    Have a wonderful day!
