Preparing for A healthier Easter

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

emoticon After nearly 4 years on Spark I can honestly say I don't dread holidays anymore. Gone are the days of why did I eat so much or set myself up with negative self talk.

I break down my planning in 3 areas:

1. Mindset - I am prepared to make this a healthier day and not give in to the thinking of I am going to blow it so eat what I want anyway and make up for it at the gym. This thinking didn't come overnight, but by practicing making small changes over the years have paid off to making healthier choices and positive thinking.

What is your mindset? Know your thinking going into the holiday versus being sorry later on.

2. Nutrtion - The Spark plan has allowed me to control portions, make healthier choices, and own my attitude regarding holiday eating. Sure, I may eat more than usual, but I can tell you my extra helpings are the veggies or fruit versus the sweets/desserts at the end.

3. Fitness - My fitness after meals in the past included a nap on the coach - today it is firing everyone one up to take a walk after dinner or playing with the kids. This year I bought all 9 of my great nieces and nephews jump ropes to be included in their beach pails that I am filling with healthier chocolate choices and other snacks. I expect to get a lot of jump roping in this year.

How will your Easter be healthier this year?

I loved your blog and the idea of the jump ropes. I think for treat bags for the kids next year I will do the same. I am glad to hear about how your mindset has changed and I look forward to that as well. We will be at my parents and inlaws so the food will be great - but they do eat healthy so I don't worry so much about the food. I am off to my workout too!!
    Have a lovely weekend

My Easter will be spent working and walking in the sun, and food wise just like any other day. The bonus of being on my own :)))

    Hi Nancy
I think this a great reminder. My Easter will look like most of my Sundays. Since I have no family here, there is not any temptations of overdoing it. I plan on my regular meals for the day, tracking as I always do and getting in all my walking. The only thing different might be eating dinner out, but that has never been a problem.
So I plan on enjoying the day, with a great weather report giving us plenty of Sunshine and warm temperatures.
I know that you will enjoy your family and also enjoy a healthy day.
    Thank you for sharing

Hi Nancy, miss you on the teams. Our Easter will be quieter this year with hubby now needing care but my daughter and granddaughter will be here, they have been helping me out. Walking is our aim tho it is still cold here. I long ago quit pigging out at holidays. I over did one Thanksgiving years ago and never forgot how miserable I was. If i have dessert, it will be a small portion Have a great Easter everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon

GREAT STUFF....I have a reputation for ALWAYS having an uninflated balloon or two in my purse. In ANY weather, everyone (especially in a holiday setting) can appreciate a fast game of VOLLEYBALLOON, and it really adds to the festivities too. Put in on your grocery list, and see how often you can use this trick for a quick workout that's fun!

I plan on exercising when I get home and I will try to not eat so much. I'm under careful watch from my nurse because of my diabetes so I don't like to let them down. I think I can have everything if I just watch my portions and I'm going to load up on vegies so that makes me full. My family eats badly so it won't be easy but I'm learning.

Interesting how we actually can change our focus once we see reality for what it is. Enjoy the jump ropes and healthy chocolates. We do the same thing but use plastic eggs with special rewards in the form of treats like getting out of house keeping or doing the dishes, etc.

I do not plan a big easter this year, There will not be the usual cakes, cookies, and pies. Just my hubby and I at home now and I don't expect any friend or family to come home since they have to work on Easter Sunday. My son and his girl friend was coming to spin the night and go to church with me and have a picnic, and egg hunt afterwards, but that is all changed now. Since his girl friend has to work Sunday. the other step grandkids will be having the holiday with their mother and her new boy friend. The only one I ever see is Brianna and she stay with me most of the time. I took her home today because I have to work Friday and Saturday was asked to work Sunday and I turned them down.
Was so sorry to hear that you are missing your father because it is his birthday I miss my dad in April, because he can not celebrate my older brother's birthday you see he died the day before my brother"s birthday. So I always get sad around this time of year, but that is OK I am working through it and it get better each year and it will for you too. emoticon

That is awesome. You are to be commended on changing your outlook! This year Easter will be just my husband and I so it will be much easier to avoid over-eating and if the weather cooperates we will definitely be going for a walk! I hope everyone else is making healthier choices too. Enjoy the jumping rope!
