First blog entry--please show your support!

Thursday, May 05, 2011

So this is my first attempt at a public blog. I've been keeping a personal blog--on and off--for a couple years. I've been ashamed to post anything publicly. I think shame is a common feeling for those trying to lose weight. But here I am! I joined this site because of all the support it offers, and I want to take advantage of as much as I can.

One thing I struggle with is getting down on myself. I figured I can continue ruminating or really try to change my mindset. In order to do so, I just bought a whole bunch of books from Amazon on the following topics: happiness, mindfulness, meditation, motivation, affirmations, visualization, etc. I started the book on mindfulness today. If you aren't aware of it, mindfulness is in short being aware of your feelings. Observing them and letting them go, but not stewing in them. I recommend people look into it if interested.

This is like my third day on this site. My goal tomorrow is to start using the nutrition tracker, as I have been putting it off.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It isn't always easy, and it isn't always pretty, but the great thing about sparking are the people who support and cheer you on through good and bad. It took me a long time to realize the value of the two things you are starting to use on here...the blogs and the nutrition tracker. Both have become my best 'allies' of late! Also, there is a mindful eating challenge team here on spark that has been fantastic for my emotional eating issues, negativity and overall awareness of who I am and what I am trying to accomplish. Check it out if you get a chance and good luck on your journey!!!

I used to have a very low self-esteem and felt ashamed of almost everything. That has a lot to do with relationships that I was in. Family included. I found that I needed to focus on myself first and not trying to please everyone else. The first thing I focused on was that I was worth voicing my opinion and being heard. This did mean cutting ties to negativity in my life. But I now know that I can succeed with anything I set my mind to do. My 21 year old daughter is impressed with my progress of being able to make friends and give encouragement to others. I always had that with my children just not a lot with 'strangers'. Now I can even speak in front of small groups of people that I don't know. So if I can do it I know anyone can. Please share your feelings because they are all valid. Do not be ashamed to speak your feelings to us because you have a ton of support here. Please feel free to add me as a friend so if you need any encouragement I can send you some.

My SparkFriends keep me on the straight and narrow. They give me encouragement and support. Blogs are the way I communicate with my friends.

There are a lot of great people on this site. And guess what? None of us are perfect. I am glad to see you sharing.

    Thanks, Bruce

Congratulations on overcoming your fear of a public blog. It's amazing the support you receive from other members when you put it out there. So many people struggle with the same issues as us, and we never know until we say it out loud.

The food tracker can be quite challenging. I have fond it is not for me, i wind up obsessing over every little calorie and fat gram , and it is not helpful to me, it is hurtful.
To each there own, try it, you might like it, but if you don't don't bat yourself up over it!

    keep sparking!
