Day 1 - My goals

Friday, May 06, 2011

I joined SparkPeople last night so today is my first official full day. Just this morning I was visiting with my daughter who told me she is trying to get in shape for a Susan G. Komen 5k race in September. The light bulb went off in my head and I decided that I WILL do it with her. It just so happens that yesterday I did the first day of the C25K program. I'm thinking there was a higher power that might have plans for me? This may not seem like a big goal for some people, but I have never been able to run, not even when I was younger, skinny and halfway fit. I tried the C25K program last fall but only made it to the end of week 2 before shin splints sidelined me and got me discouraged. I will take it slower this time and make it happen. I'm doing other workouts also to keep things varied and mixed up a little.

Of course there is my goal to lose weight also. I need to lose 80 lbs. A year from now I want to be able to look back on these blogs and smile as I remember writing them and know that I have taken control of my life.

What a great goal! I have walked several 5Ks, but have yet to attempt to run one, but you can do it!

And I agree that its amazing how people read and respond to blogs here on Spark... it is inspirint, supportive and sometimes a little intimidating!

I've got the same goal, too. Only the Komen 5k comes to my area October 1st.

Keep posting so that we can encourage each other!

Wow, this site is amazing. I wrote a blog and people actually read it!! Ok, now it's kinda scary.....lol. In a way I decided to blog for my own personal satisfaction of putting something in writing. But knowing that others will read some of them will be a mental help also. Thanks for the welcomes :)

Even if you have to double the length of time it takes to get to 5k you still get to 5k!!

I'm now doing a whopping 30-45 seconds of running at a time. Pathetic, but some day soon I will do a minute, then 90 seconds and maybe in a year or two I can really run.

Welcome to the blogs and congrats on getting serious about getting healthy!
