There is Enough for All

Monday, May 09, 2011

I had the awesome opportunity to go to Rockford, Illinois to see a dear friend compete in her first natural bodybuilding competition. I consider it a privilege to have watched her journey over this past year. Seeing her dreams that she has pursued with a vengeance, come to fruition is just a beautiful thing to watch. I love to witness the moment when a strong beautiful woman steps out of her comfort zone and up into the bright light of her passion.

It reminds me of a little girl I saw in a hotel lobby a couple months ago. This little girl was about 5 years old and she was so excited that she was going to Disney World. She proclaimed to anyone and everyone that "I'm going to Disney World! I'm going to Disney World!" Her bright eyed enthusiasm was impossible to ignore and made me giggle. I love that kind of joy and passion. The idea that because she was happy and rejoicing, she expected that others would rejoice and be happy with her. The little dialogue I heard behind her enthusiasm was "Isn't that just awesome! Aren't you happy for me!" Yes, yes it it awesome and yes, it does bring me great joy to celebrate those moments and I always feel so very honored that I have been allowed to step into that moment with them.

We live in a great big universe and there is enough for all of us. Me having more of something at any given time, (more opportunities, more results, more joy, more friends, etc) does not take away from the opportunities, results, joy or friends that are available to you or anyone else. As a matter of fact, if you allow yourself to step into the 'love bubble' and enjoy the celebration, your joy will increase. When your joy increases, it vibrates out unto others. Joy and enthusiasm multiply . . . not divide.

There is enough for me to have an overflowing abundance without every touching the abundance that is available for anyone else. Trying to 'steal someones joy', may diminish their joy and make them feel less like they should include you in their celebration. So, instead of increasing your joy, 'stealing joy' actually gives less joy to you, to others.

Think back to that little girl, celebrating going to Disney. Would you want to take that joy from her? Would being upset that YOU are NOT going to Disney make it hard for you to celebrate that she was?

Recent events have brought up old feelings that have echoes of "There is only enough for one and you are not it" and "Dividing love and attention is not fair, so we choose one and you are not it." It hurt my heart for the little girl in me who heard those messages and it hurt my heart that the person showing these limiting shallow behaviors is someone who says they love me (not my husband, so don't even think it). Love celebrates with you, for you and delights in your achievements.

There is enough, for all of us. Celebrate. Jump up and down! Rejoice with a friend, their joy and your joy expand and spill out onto others. Joy does not divide, it multiplies.

Live in the joy, light, enthusiasm and passion of all you were created to be and to do. Maybe your sole purpose is to be the person that your friends and family know will be there to celebrate with! I want to be THAT person. I want to be the person that my friends think they bring their victories to knowing that I will be so happy for them.

We all have different abundances in our lives, sometimes we are just so focused on others' abundances that we fail to recognize our own. That is the challenge, the lifetime quest for me, at least. To be grateful for what we have rather than wanting what we do not have. And I agree, there is always room for more in the "love bubble!" Thanks for sharing yours!

I don't remember anyone actually saying to me: "There is only enough for one and you are not it" and "Dividing love and attention is not fair, so we choose one and you are not it." but when I was little, I sure felt like that was what was meant. It's taken a lot of hard work to over come those little girl feelings. I still struggle from time to time but I'm working on it.

I'm so proud of all your hard work and rejoice with you that you've come so far. I love seeing the happiness in your smile.

It's like when you tell your kids that lighting another candle from your candle does not decrease its light. It increases the light by now having 2 candles shine. You are shining into our lives, and, hopefully, lighting our candles so that we can shine as well. Thanks.
