Objectives vs Goals

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Back in the early 70's in the field of education the concept of goals and objectives was being used by special education teachers as it was at this time the Individual Education Plan (IEP) was beginning to be a federal requirement. Now you will find goals and objectives in use through our education In addition I have seen it in use in business

The concept was to help pinpoint a plan based on the child's specific needs Also to me it was a way to see that the child was making progress though so often the case it seemed like 3 steps forward 2 steps backward. I so often feel in this journey to good health though it seems more like 2 steps forward and 5 steps backward.

So what is a goal vs an objective I was told it was like a map A goal was where you were heading so you'd know when you got there and the objective was the small measurable steps that helped you moved towards the goal.

The difficult thing to me is keeping the steps small You can't change a habit overnight and sometimes for various reasons I find myself falling own.

Lately in my life there have often been times where I have fallen and at those times I remember the line pick myself up, brush myself off and start all over again. emoticon

I loved this only because we are setting up my son's IEP now so it made me think of that. I could see though how it could fit here.

I agree - "lean" into the changes and layer.

Great blog!! Good luck with your goals and those objectives...even though we may have steps backwards they are still a lesson that we didn't know before...so are they really backward steps if we've learned...or does it just ~ feel ~ that way....sigh!!

    Pressing on!!
