Memorial Day Week-end Challenge

I can remember preparing last years challenge for the upcoming Memorial Day and urging us all to kick off for what is for many of us the official start of summer - A good time for new beginnings and to refresh our journeys towards healthier lifestyles.

How will you start off the official first summer holiday? Personally, I am a firm believer in being prepared both physically and mentally. This is why I love Spark so much, it allows me to develop goals - both long term and short term that build the consistency and balance I so crave in my life to keep making progress.

What about you? It is almost time to think about setting goals for June, why not start now while planning for a fit Memorial Day week-end? Choosing your path to a healthy lifestyle is important every day, won't you join me and your team in having the healthiest Memorial Day yet.

Some ways to be ready for this week-ends BBQ:
Cut down a little on what you eat every day before the cookout so you can eat more that day?
Control your portions so you don't eat more than you should at the barbeque?
Increase your exercise a little every day before and after to compensate for what you may eat?
Or just take the day, relax, and trust that you've learned a better lifestyle over these weeks and months so you'll adapt to whatever food and drinks are available?

What will your strategy be and what are your Memorial Day plans?

    emoticon ♫Off we go into the wide Blue Yonder... ♫ I'm an Air Force Verteran and Love Memeorial Day to remember our vets and it has also come to be a day to remember family and friends who have passed on before us. Thanks for reminding me to plan goals for my better health in the future - I am going to work on my goal of adding at least 250 extra designated, measured and marked steps daily per week [this is above my daily walking with pedometer or just activities of daily living.] Starting out with 500 last week, upped it to 750 this week - with my fibrinyalgia this is a huge commitment but consistency will overcome. Counting steps works better than time - that way i can still accomplish no matter how long I take!!

    I'm sure I'll have a lot to be sorry for this year. The family reunion is Sunday.

    #2 Eating two many hot dog and hamburgers
    #3 Eating two much sweets
    #4 drinking to much punch or pop
    #5 not enough exercise
    #6 not eating enough vegetables
    #7 not drinking enough water
    The things I won't regret
    1. seeing my family or what is left of them
    2. getting reignited with the ones I haven't in a long time.
    3. Putting flowers on the graves of my loved ones.
    4. hearing the preaching at the cemetery
    5. hearing the pretty singing praising my father in heaven.

    Good blog, and a great reminder of what it is really all about. I have my goals firmly in sight and will be watching my portions and moving as best I can. I like the idea of reintroducing the 10 minute streak. Think I'll follow in Debbie's footsteps beginning Monday the week before Memorial Day. That's how to get it done. Thanks for the reminder of what makes a difference. Happy Holiday!
