Pedometers and me! Help!

Can anyone out there help me please? I have at least 4 pedometers now, having laboured under the obvious delusion that they were not working properly. I now have to acknowledge that the one not working properly must be me! :(

They all say wear at the waistline - but none of them is in any way accurate! I count my steps, but they are always under the number on the pedometer, sometimes only registering a very few. Where am I going wrong? Any tips would be gratefully received!

    Hi...

    Are all 4 giving you the same results? I had an Ormon and that didn't register.... and I tried with various types (I love amazon) and in the end found one that worked for me. It was a case of trail and error.

    I kept hearing good things about Ormon and in the end I came to one that can be connected to your computer and you can download steps and see neat graphs etc. I was skeptical but its working well. Says the same as my other ped did as well. My only fear is that it might change when I have the battery changed ~ as this has happened to a few of the cheaper pedometers I have brought.

    But note ~ more expensive doesn't have to mean more accurate. And it depends what you want it for? Steps, milage, calories burnt? Bells and whistles? ( I mean some are a radio as well *smile)

    so this is a long note to say I can't really help you!

    I've been wearing the Omron brand for about 2 1/2 years now. It seems to work for me, but my co-worker's doesn't work as good for him. Unfortunately they aren't all perfect, and even the good ones have some problems. Good luck finding one that works good enough for you to wear!

    Pedometers vary wildly in how they work and what they register. For example, my first, very cheap one, had a little pea thing inside that bounced about as I walked. It gave me loads of steps, and I was thrilled to find I was really a lot more active than I thought. The only problem with it (so I thought) was that it kept coming off my waistband. So, instead of that, I kept it in my jeans pocket, which worked fine, except when pressure accidentally pressed buttons on it and reset the counter to zero.

    The second one I had, and still use today, came with Active Health - a game for the Nintendo DSi. This one works electronically, and doesn't register slow walking, so most of my movement around the house doesn't register on it. On the plus side of that, at least I know that what does register is actual effort on my part, so a decent walking pace for instance is beautifully recorded. :-) Also, with no reset buttons to accidentally press, I don't lose any data.

    Wearing the two together (one in each front jeans pocket)gave some interesting results. Turned out the pea container was way too generous! LOL It gave me twice as many steps as the other one, much more than that if I was only in the house all day.

    I don't know if this info helps at all. It is the only experience I have with pedometers.
