It was "open door week" at the Zumba class in my town. They are offering different level : Introduction, Basics, Toning, Old Timer, Kids and Teens. The instructor is a young mexican trainer, dynamic and cheerful. So DH and I went to Saturday morning try out.
Woohoo.
I'm definitely looking for a daytime class to move my body this summer, since my work load is always lighter that time of year - and DH don't have much time off. I was also hopeful that DH would come with me - he also needs to move more...
Anyway, we came in just in time as the class was about to start. 1st thing we noticed : the room is filled with woman - no man - in they're 30 and over. DH isn't pleased with it but still decided to stay. The instructor's husband is there as well, so it's seems ok.
The class start without much warming, nor explanation only 4 rules :
-Don't worry if you can't follow, just walk instead
-Don't worry if you don't get it at first, you'll be better next week
-Don't compare yourself to the one next to you
-Have fun and Smile a lot!
Instructions are given in French, English and Spanish, which is ok : it only makes it more exotic to me
Basics don't stand for easy : it refer to the basics latino dances : meringue, salsa, bachata, cumbia, mambo.
So the class began - music is classical latino dance beat and it feels like we're 5 out of 25 beginners. Soon, we're working a good sweat and we are invited to drink a bit of water between every dance in order to stay well hydrated.
Perla, the instructor, is a BIG fan of Selena - so she sings along out loud as well!
That first hour went by fast - and I really did enjoy myself dancing to those latin beats.
DH won't be coming back with me on Saturday mornings, so I'd sign in for the Thursday morning class - hoping the group would be big enough to start by July 7th!
It's a fun activity to do as long as you don't take yourself to seriously and accept not knowing every move - cause the pace is quite fast at first.
So yes, I'll give it a try for summer time and will keep you post on it
One, Doce, Tressss, Zumba !!!
PS : By the way, there is no muscle pain today resulting from Zumba class : I just feel a little bit more alive
