Positive Steps I've Already Made

Friday, July 15, 2011

This afternoon I decided to make a list of the positive and healthy things I do for my body ALREADY, instead of focusing strictly on what I can improve in the future.

1) I don't drink soda. In fact, I've never had a whole glass/can/bottle of soda in my life. I really dislike the carbonation and the sickly sweet taste. I'm extremely fortunate that I don't have to overcome the hurdle of giving up soda.

2) I virtually only drink water. I don't drink coffee because I think it tastes like wet, hot dirt. I don't like juice very much, but I'll drink a couple different brands occasionally. I'll drink cow or soy or almond milk at breakfast every now and then. I don't like alcohol much, either and I've only ever had a few tart, flavorless drinks. I hear people complain that water tastes "too plain," but I can't wrap my mind around that - I think water is AMAZING and EXACTLY what I'm craving all the time. I'm ultra lucky I don't take in a lot of liquid calories.

3) I don't eat fast food. It sickens me. Ever since I read _Fast Food Nation_ when I was 11, I've virtually removed it from my diet. Sometimes on road trips with other people it's unavoidable. But when I have a choice, I stay away from the polluting, wasteful, abusive fast food industry. I'm endlessly thankful I'm not tempted by fast food's siren song.

4) I love myself. I really do. I think I'm a worthwhile, awesome, super cool person. I definitely don't think I'm perfect. Instead, I value myself enough to treat my body and thoughts with respect. I'm comfortable with myself. It almost seems like a privilege in our society for someone to feel good about themselves, since the majority of messages received about our bodies and abilities is YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND NEVER WILL BE. That's a damn shame. Everyone has to take their own path to self-acceptance, and I'm thrilled and humbled that I've reached this point early in my life.

I like this list. I'm proud of my accomplishments. Maybe the next post will be about the less-stellar habits and quirks I have...

Peace and love, ya'll

Wow - you're off to a great life!!!

Love that you're not into alcohol and still a student! Good for you.

And water - I couldn't agree more - it IS amazing and a precious commodity that we need to keep our eye on as there are so many companies out there buying the rights to underground water supplies everywhere.

Glad to see you're someone who values the positives and not stuck on the negative self-traits!!! Have a great day!

Very nice blog. What a way to say what you are proud of, instead of having negatives in your life and what things you need to fix. Congratulations! emoticon
