You may remember a while back I said some of the questions on the photo-blog list were a little redundant. Such is the case with today's:
"A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel."
I wrote in a previous blog that going to Easter Island is on my bucket list (which it is), but to my mind, that's more than someplace I'd 'love to see' - it's in a different category altogether.
I've thought about places like Japan, Italy, Australia... Paris. Santorini. Cairo and Alexandria and - well, you see how that is. The choices would be never-ending.
I live in Europe, but haven't been to The Continent at all. There are so many places I'd like to see 'for real.' How about the field where the Battle of Agincourt took place? The Alhambra, where Katharine of Aragon lived as a child. Pompeii! Now that would rank high on my list.
I'd love to be in Scandinavia for one of the Midsummer's Eve festivals; I first read of those when I was a kid. I'd like to tour Holland when the tulips are in bloom - another thing I read about years ago. If I could brave the cold, how about the 'city' they build from ice every year in Russia?
If someone came to me tomorrow and said 'You've won a lottery. It's not a cash prize, but you can travel to anyplace in the world you'd like to visit, all expenses paid,' I'd have to think long and hard. And to tell you the truth, the place I believe I'd pick is in America. Sort of.
I think I'd pick Hawaii. I want to see the Bernice Bishop Museum, and Diamond Head, and the Arizona Memorial. I want to go to Molokai; I'm sure there would be a site in honor of Father - well, Saint, now - Damien. I'd like to hunt for a bit of 'Pele's hair,' and tour Iolani Palace, and walk on a black sand beach.
Wonder if I could learn how to make a lei? Or do a (modified!) hula? Or maybe just take a crash-course in speaking Hawaiian. Do you suppose you can go to the Mauna Kea observatory? Talk about star-gazing!
Yes, that's where I'd love to travel: Hawaii.
Now, the next trick was choosing one picture to represent all this:
You'll have to fill in the rest with your imagination.
Goodnight, Sparklers, wherever you are!
