Day 220: Nothing Remarkable

Monday, August 08, 2011

...which pretty much describes today.

We did the groceries, I gave the ironing a miss, I fixed a couple of absolutely luscious nectarines for supper - some raspberries over, pretty AND delicious.

Other than that, I've pretty much been a lump. *sigh*

I am slowly sliding back into spending more and more time at the computer. The searches thru the old newspapers are so slow.* They're all in PDFs, and by the time a page opens, I tell it to 'Find,' zoom in on the item... if it's one I don't want or need (and probably a good 75% of them aren't) it's close and go back to the list and select the next one, waiting while it opens. If the article or item I find is one that's relevant, it's print-screen, paste into Paint, crop, save... and yes, it takes even longer for me to do all that than it did to write this paragraph.

*I'm not complaining, in one regard - I am ever so appreciative that somebody, somewhere, somehow, photocopied these old newspapers and digitized them for free online access. My chances of getting to these places (libraries, mostly) to do on-site research aren't very good. The next time we get to the US I don't want to spend all my available time in a newspaper morgue. So I am genuinely grateful these are available.

Point being, because my computer time is creeping up, my fitness (it is to laff, since I don't 'do' fitness) time is creeping down. Argh.

Okay, Erddig (you'll like that one) is hanging over my head yet as a catch-up for the trips we took in July. A long blog Saturday, a long blog last night, so this one is short. Gives me a break, even if your eyeballs were up to it, lol...

It's not bedtime yet, but I'm going to do one more half-hour of the research, then quit for the day. Television, Beatleband, and that'll do me. Goodnight, Sparklers, wherever you are!

It is brilliant that people have taken the time to digitize such things so we can go to them and catchup on history and family as well....

I know you enjoy doing this and I applaude you for it....

    Sleep well...

You'll reach the same conclusion I did two blogs ago. Ask the elves to suspend internet privileges until the New Year. That'll do the trick! I understand though. I am in the same boat. I have made a goal to myself to manage my time more efficiently, or maybe put a time cap on "wasted" time. Hope you figure things out!

P.S. Love your new profile pic!

At least you recognize the dilemma. Maybe you'll get to a point where you're seeing the same information over and over . . sometimes that happens to avid researchers. At that point you'll find it easier to slip away so you can move more. Until then, there are so many treasures to be found tucked inside that window!!

Keep a small weight near the computer and do some arm lifts while you are waiting for it to load----or watch some of Coach Nicole's videos on office workouts---you can do several of these over the course of the day while you fiddle your thumbs.

I completely get about online addictions undermining fitness initiatives. Couple that with a minor injury and you'll see some pretty bad back-sliding in my history. So... force yourself to take walk breaks, Kasey... you'll thank yourself later. srsly.

I seem to be all or nothing with the computer. Lately, it's been very difficult to find the time or the energy (I'm on the computer 8 full hours every day at work, reading and editing so by the time I get home...)

I would get lost in genealogical research if I started it again, though, so I'm staying away from it for now. I envy you!

I find the computer/exercise balance difficult some times. Mostly it's when work beckons. It's been much less of a problem since I started walking first thing in the morning. Then if I need computer time it has to come from somewhere else.

Good luck tonight... I've really got to get that game!
