Getting back on track...now I need to stay there!

Sunday, August 21, 2011

I lost a pound at my daughter's and have lost another pound since I've been home on Wednesday. Not sure these are really pounds gone or just fluctuations. We'll see. I am tracking food daily, cutting back portions and eliminating some foods that I know aren't helping the weight loss. I am trying to get back into consistent workout routine. That's not been as easy as the food but I will keep pushing ahead!!!!
I'm a little concerned as we are heading to the beach on Thursday with some dear friends for a long weekend. This is a very difficult trip for me as they LOVE to eat out. A couple of years ago, my hubby and I said we couldn't eat out lunch and dinner---we both gained weight on these "little" trips. So we'll eat salad or sandwich while they go out for lunch. That's worked better for us but dinner out every night is still difficult. I have a hard time with peer pressure or what people think. So I find myself ordering food I don't need--making the good choices are hard for me in these situations. I will try again on this trip. emoticon
My August has been as busy as July was and I'm about done with this kind of a schedule. I want to get back into my rut for a while!!!
Thanks for all the support you all have given me. I appreciate it more than you know. Have a great week! emoticon

You'll probably save money not eating lunch out, too. I'm pretty boring about eating lunch out--I always end up getting some kind of Caesar salad (plus chicken, shrimp, fish, salmon), dressing on the side. Have you tried just getting appetizers and splitting them? Yesterday I got a Caesar with blackened grouper, and BIll got oysters Rockefeller and gumbo, so we both picked at everything. My real downfall, however, is those salt-laden bloody Marys!

I'm so with you. I need an end to temptation and a return to rut. I need to eat better, exercise harder. And lose some weight!!

Hi there you can do this without sabotaging your meals. Dh and I are now very comfortable sharing a meal in fact friends have also started to do this with us. the restaurant never cares so it is a win win situation.

We have a combo plate I have a 6 ounce steak he eats the salmon grilled I eat the baked potato he gets the muffin and I give him the "on the side butter" from my potato. He gets the coleslaw. I often order a small Caesar so i get my greens.

There are lots of meals like this you just ask them for another plate or ask them to halve if it is something like a pasta meal. The good thing about this is you are not alone. If you and DH talk about it together there is rarely ant pressure exerted on you. When you alone want less then the sabotage comes in. It works for us and many others check it out with your DH. We buy him a dessert once in a while and I take just a little he likes it that way, if I do not accept he says something like are you sure so I go along with my small spoonful and he is happy. HUGS Pat in Maine. You can do this it is so important to be as healthy as we can be. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Does it work to eat just half your meal, and take the rest back to the campsite and put it in the cooler for the meal that you don't eat out?

Or, to find a meal that both you and your husband enjoy, and split if? If he needs to eat slightly more than half a meal, you could order a side dish, such as an extra vegetable to go with it.

Just some ideas. We eat out often; and I've still managed to consistently lose weight. But, I order carefully, and I just eat half the meal in the restaurant, and take the rest home.

Hope you can find something that works for you.

    Wow Beth,
I know you have had a busy summer, some good times, some not so good. The beach with close friends sounds heavenly! Maybe add some long, beautiful walks. Most importantly, enjoy you trip, your husband, and your friends. Have a fabulous time and take me along in your pocket.
I'll be living vicariously through your travels.

I too am going to the beach Thursday. I am trying to plan ahead and still have a great time. I need to create a balance. As far as going for dinner, my favorite technique is to order first. That was I can not be influenced by all the unhealthy choices others are making.
The other thing that made me chuckle is that we have the opposite problem, I have trouble with food not exercise. Maybe you can share some pointers with what has worked for you to stick to your food plan
    Thanks emoticon
