A running surprise

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Well, I'll be...
I've been doing the walk/jog program for 4 weeks--faithfully, no skimping , and now here in the middle of week 5 we were to run 20 minutes straight--no stopping to walk. "Isn't that rushing things a bit?" I whined. "I don't think my endurance or my knees are ready for this quite yet."

Competitive spirit that I am though, I decided I was just going to huff & puff my way through it so I could at least say I did it once. Well, surprise, surprise. It wasn't hard AT ALL. The previous weeks' training really does prepare us to do this.

Now I wouldn't have won any race at the slow pace I ran--I was determined to last, so it was a s-l-o-w jog. I ran in the cool of early morning, music playing in my ears-- and I didn't even get winded! It looks as if I really will be able to eventually run a 5k. Well, well....

What a confidence builder.

Congrats to you Jazze! Slow is good because you did it. The SP coaches always preach that quality is better than quality and you showed that you can do it, speed will come later!

Great job and I am so happy for you girl!

Wow! I am SO impressed with your success! And you were wise to take it easy & succeeding instead of too fast and getting bummed. 20 minutes is a long time to jog (in my humble opinion!)

A 5k is definitely in your future...I'd better stock up on gold stars to award our blossoming runner!
    Big hugs!
