Hockey Season started today!

Saturday, September 10, 2011

I have grown to love hockey season: high school hockey, that is. I have nephews that play hockey in Minnesota, where hockey is bigger than... well, pretty much anything.

The high school Elite league started today--these are the best 130 high school hockey players in the whole state of Minnesota, and including some of Canada and Wisconsin, too. Both of my nephews made the team. One is a senior this year, and one a junior.

This league is a cut above high school hockey, since it is the best of the best. They have a sign-in table at the entrance to the venue for scouts who are there to see the players. It is so much fun to watch!

I also have a great appreciation for the level of fitness and athletic ability of these players. They are going full-out for 3-20 minute periods. Yes, they switch lines, but when they are on the ice, there is no down-time. Of course, both of my nephews did some time in the penalty box, LOL. I guess that's one way to get a break. But their team won 16-2. It was pretty awesome!

    Hockey already? Wow.

I love hockey. My brother played as a child, and my husband and I are big Red Wings fans. We've also adopted the Wild since we moved here (and yes, it's tough when it's Wings v. Wild).

I hope you share more news of their season; go team!

We're anxiously awaiting the beginning of professional hockey. DH is a big time Detroit Red Wings Fan. Sounds like you watched a great game.
