Computer issues with Internet explorer

Sure wish I was more computer savy
Yesterday I was doing my regular spark routine through aol mail using internet explorer when my mail left me with blank lines. I figured it was about time I updated to IE 8 , hoping this would solve the problem. I have yet been able to open my mail the way I was so famaliar with.

Can't go cold turkey without spark so I briefly came in the back door but I was determined to get back to my regular routine (creature of habit I am) and kept trying to open my mail - no luck.

I had downloaded the google chrome browser so decided to give that a try and after hours it finally let me open my aol mail. Now, I have no idea if aol is undergoing changes or if internet explorer has changed that drastically.

I do know I can't blame it on spark emoticon which I think many of us can identify with.

Any feedback from computer literates appreciated. I am having a tech come out to set up my wireless router so I will assume they will have to explain to me what is going on.

So my friends, if I disappear it is not by choice.

I blame EVERYTHING on AOL!! haahah... I was on AOL when it first came out and through 2 or 3 versions... through unscrupulous charges on my credit card and the way they would hide the URL to make it impossible to get off their interface and actually connect to an outside website. It's the same ole' history over and over. I gave them the boot YEARS ago, literally 20 years at this point because I first got online in 1990 (and was using Internet the "old fashioned way" on mainframe systems in college during the early 1980's. WWW interface was invented or released, I should say, around 1994, and AOL (or sometimes called AOH*double hockeysticks) is all about themselves, never about cooperation. They are "sort of better" these days but they still take newcomers by surprise.

I've still got an AIM account with them but rarely use it...

Hi Nancy, I use Internet Explorer all the time and it's been fine. My problem is ME! My latest blog is testimony to that! You sound way ahead of me in computer savy; I hope you get this worked out. It can really eat up the time and that frustrates me! Hugs, Joy

With all my connectivity problems I didn't notice the problems yesterday. Hope you are up and running today!

    Hi Nancy
I had felt it was a Spark problem, when things got to slow, I would reboot and it was fine, However, I do use AOL and IE 8, perhaps It is a problem with the IE. I have Safari and when I get the time I am going to try using it.
    Thanks for the info.

I changed to Firefox last year and haven't had the issues that I had on Internet Explorer. For some strange reason it also spell checks as I go in the message box without having to click on the Spell Check tab, too, and I really like that :-)

I hear ya! I have the same as you...AOL and Internet Explorer. Things change on my computer a lot WITHOUT any input from me. I do not have the knowledge to put them back the way they were, nor do I know if that is even possible. Each time in the past when I have tried to FIX something on the computer, I usually make it A LOT worse. So I am stuck with having to accept whatever changes that are made for me. This makes me NOT too happy! I hope you can get your computer back the way that you want it. GOOD LUCK!

I was having issues with Internet Explorer and SparkPeople yesterday. The pages wouldn't fully download (I could see the headers but not the threads). I have no idea if it was an IE or a SP issue.

Nancy, not a real computer expert either, but I do know that Internet Explorer is up to version 9 now. I haven't used AOL mail for about 14 years or so, so I can't say if it's an AOL thing. Have you ever used the Mozilla Firefox browser? I've been using that browser for years and have had no problems with it.

Here the Firefox link for you. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo
x/fx/ Just click the free download button, and it's pretty easy to set up.

Other than that, I don't know what the issue could be. Try updating to IE 9 and see if that helps.
