I want food! AND dinner ideas!

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I don't know if it is because of stress or not but, I am just so hungry! My stomach is growling in class and posters advertising free pizza around campus aren't helping. I am trying to think positive and remind myself that dinner will probable be very yummy but, getting to dinner will be the hard part. Tonight, I'm going to make the French's Crunchy Onion Chicken, steamed green beans, and a salad. Possibly with ranch but, I haven't decided if I'm in the balsamic vinegar or ranch mode yet. my husband isn't enjoying the diet very much. His opinion is the shakes taste awful, the snacks aren't much better, and he just wants some real food. I've started taking heartburn medication so I no longer have heartburn which is a plus for me. I think the shake tastes better when warm, it's not foamy and I just like it a little better.

Anyways, what are good ideas for dinner? I don't have very many ideas. I want something that is quick, easy, healthy, and delicious. No pork though. I don't really like pork but, beef, chicken, and turkey is okay.

I don't have any great recipe or menu suggestions. I'm sort of a throw-together cook myself. I use the skillet and the crockpot a lot.

But, ... I'm a big believer in cutting out simple carbs as much as possible. I suggest meals that focus around proteins and vegetables and fruits. Fill your plate (preferably a lunch-size plate) ith 1/2 protein and 1/2 fruits and vegetables, if possible.

Give your husband a dinner size late, if he wants it. And, if your husband feels like he needs starchy stuff, you can make some for him and just skip it for yourself. Or, choose only whole grains, and then it's OK to eat some, and he'll be better off too, without white flour, breads, pastas, potatoes, etc. (Then, it's still 1/2 fruits and veg, but 1/4 whole grains and 1/4 protein.)

You could google South Beach recipes. They include recipes with "good carbs" and "good fats".
