Diary of a Female Football player

Monday, November 07, 2011

On my 38th birthday (September28, 2011), I decided that I wanted to be fit by 40. I also decided that I wanted to increase my circle of female friends. Luck should have it that I received an email from meetup.com about a new group for women football players. I thought this is just what I need I could make new friend and get in shape. BTW, I was thinking this was a weekend warrior kind of thing of a group of gals playing flag football or touch. As I did my homework on the group, I realized this was a whole lot more. This was a group of women who were playing professional women's tackle football. At this point, was just going to scrap the whole idea since I was not in the best of shape and just turned 38 years old. After running the idea buy my support system(my sisters), they encouraged me to do the tryout just for the experience.
So, I signed up for the email list on their website atlantaphoenixfootball.com for the next tryout which was going to be on October 15, 2011. UMMM... that was in two weeks their was no way I was going to be in shape. Doubt started creeping in but I decided I would go to two of the conditioning practices before the tryout. Those were a real eye opener to how out of shape I was. The coach and previous team players were so encouraging though so I came back the next day even though every muscle in my body was screaming for mercy. I could hardly walk. Practice was a little easier then the day before..well got to go will continue later on with the backstory :)

You've got my curiousity up! I love football from the stands or the couch - but to actually play. And tackle! Those have got to be some tough chics : )
