Lent

Happy Ash Wednesday Everyone!

I know not everybody participates in the Lent season, but if you are a Christian I encourage you to consider it. My friend wrote this article if you're interested, give it a read.

In the past I've given up soda or fast food or added things, like reading the bible every day or eating a fruit or veggie everyday. This year, I really examined my heart and asked God for direction. (Imagine that!!) FOR ME doing things regarding food feel more like a diet to me. It becomes less spiritual. Please understand, that's for me!!! :) I know many people who give up sweets and that's great. It just doesn't work for me.
That said, this year I am giving up frivilous spending. This will be HARD. But I need to be a better steward of my money. So... unless I NEED it, I will not be getting it. I LOVE shopping, but I have enough clothes. I could certainly use a few more items, but I don't NEED them. I also have a habit of packing my lunch but if the offer to go out comes along, I ALWAYS take it! LOL so, no more of that.

So, say a prayer of strength for me! Especially since my mom is coming for a visit next month and that's where I get my love of shopping from!!! :)

Hard things to do -- I haven't thought about giving something up for Lent. Adding sounds promising though! Best of luck in the endeavor - 40 days (40?) isn't TOOO bad. *knocks on every piece of wood I can find for all of us*

You know, both of you, Sarah and Amy, have excellent choices for sacrifice. I also spend too frivolously and have a bit of a potty mouth. I will work on those, but I did the self examination this year about Lent also and my choices seem best for me. I haven't observed Lent in a long, long time. I am not Catholic, but my former church did observe it and I always got such a positive experience from it.

I've given up 3 food categories for Lent. 2 of them, chocolate and pastries are important to me because these items are ones I can't seem to stop eating in abundance when they are around. I can go days, sometimes weeks without buying them, but once I do, I buy in excess and eat them in excess. The third is fried foods. While I don't have a major problem here, I was going through my food trackers and menu planners and discovered that all too often if we grab a fast food or drive through meal or even eat at a better restaurant I see the pattern of having too many times chosen a fried option over a grilled one, french fries over vegetables or salad.

Good luck and God bless to all of us who are making healthy and spiritual sacrifices during Lent!

I'll be praying for your cash and credit cards to stay in your purse when temptation lurks, lol :) You can do it Sarah!

I'm giving up my potty mouth. I know hard to believe but I swear like a sailor sometimes and it's usually at home. Not a good thing so i'm praying that I can do this for the lent season but also that it will carry forward from there into my everyday life.
