So excited...Goal, New Bike Pics.

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Weighed in this morning and hit my goal for the week - booyah!

Was bonecrushingly tired yesterday (think I'm coming down with something) so didn't walk or run but it was Teacher Only Day at my sons school and I have 1 class at 3pm today so I slept in!!!!

I went to pick up a spare bike from my parent's they had offered me last week so I'm not late to class (45 min walk - sometimes the hair has missed out on getting pretty). I turned up after my Monday run and lo and behold they have given it away!! WHAT!!! (For those who might not remember, last year I made a life-changing decision to shift back to my hometown so had to sell my possessions to get down here in one piece and am still broke!!) So I was pretty gutted as I had big plans to go trail-biking too!!

My Dad is a mad road cyclist - in fact I am support crew next month when he does the Tour of NZ. HE is on 'account' name basis with his local bike shop and he casually says "Oh I was thinking I might buy you a bike anyway"!!!! DOUBLE WHAT!!! HAha so I went from poor deprived student begging for the borrow of a bike from my parent's to being offered a brand spanking new bike of my choice.

I, of course, have lost all pride since being a broke ass student, accepted his wonderful offer and went home and pored over the bikes in the bike shop online until I found this:

Isn't she beautiful?? I didn't want to get a womens bike per se but this one doesn't look grandmaish and is a hybrid so perfect for riding to school and I can bike some trails if I wana - not intense ones, tame ones. And she's white which is what I wanted aesthetically!! We go to pick her up later today so next week expect to see a whole lotta cycling hitting my fitness tracker!!!

Ps. I haven't actually owned a bike since I was pregnant and came off, hard. I may need some pointers... any helpful tips??

    She's a beauty.

Tip: Do NOT ride on the sidewalk. You have to yield to walkers and getting off and back on a side walk can cause your tire to get stuck in transition. I know about this first hand b/c it happened to me last year - I feel, broke my arm, bruised my chest wall so badly I had trouble breathing and spent hours in an E.R.

    Enjoy emoticon

Sorry ... I just read my comment and it's such a downer :(
I really only wanted to caution you not deter or scare you in any way (hope I didn't)

Love it when Dad comes through! I got a bike last year and it was hard to re-learn at first. I'm sure your dad will have pointers. Have fun, be careful.

    WOW lucky lady!

I know whatcha mean with the pride going out the window. My mum paid for my phone credit today because we are seriously broke and she felt sorry for me!
