Distance: 6.0
Time: about 50 minutes
Heart Rate: not measured
Shoes: K-Swiss K-Ona S
Notes: Light run with some gentle pick-me-ups toward the end. Easy jog through busy streets and quick stops at Vons and Sports Chalet along the way before settling down into an 8:00 to 8:20 per mile pace. Kept 180 stride per minute cadence with music playlist as metronome for 2 miles. Felt comfortable. Only slight weariness in the left ankle toward the end, but tape support felt good and didn't cause any hotspots.
Got a little heavy chested and winded near the end despite the relaxed pace. Kept tight focus on form, working to keep from extending left foot well past the knee on the forward stride. Believe there's a correlation between an imbalance in my stride and the susceptibility of the left ankle to rolling when midfoot or heel comes down on unstable surface like a crack or rock. Left leg overstriding may also explain why right hip tends to get sore first, though how exactly, I don't know.
But overall, feel good. Was contemplating switching to the All Day 25K event at Sunday's Carlsbad 5000. Not primed to run a PR-effort single 5K so thought I'd get something else out of it and work it into an endurance event of 5x5K repeats. Not sure. Will probably make a final decision at the Expo on Saturday. Dad's visiting so don't know if I want to take up the first half of the day for myself. And need to be down at SDSU by 2PM, so timing would be tight.
Probably not. Kind of talking myself out of it as I type.
