Attacking Goal #3: a sprint triathlon
Tuesday, May 15, 2012
So I accomplished the 5K PR I was seeking: check.
I finished a half-marathon, and even at goal time: check.
Now it's time to tackle the tri! My DD and I were looking at a HM on July 4th, and then finally got information back for a Rookie Triathlon on July 7th. So we're going to do that instead.
It appears to have a killer swim for a sprint tri--nearly half a mile open water swim! But the bike section, which is the part about which I am most uncertain, is only 8 miles, and the run plays to my strength at 4 miles. So I think it will be good.
My bike is in the truck so I can get a spring tune-up done on it. I am going to buy a punch card for lap swimming at the local junior high pool and get training. My goal for this adventure is just to finish. I have no time goal at all, I don't even care if I'm last. But I suspect/hope I will be able to pass some people on the run.
The lovely part about this triathlon is that it is out-of-town, but not too far, and it is close to a state park. We are going to camp at the state park campground for the nights before and after and enjoy a nice weekend!
