Waiting For Some Cooler Weather

Sunday, May 27, 2012

Yesterday my son and husband were off work on the same day so we got to sleep in some but not much. My son was going to a friend's house for the day and my hubby and I had to decorate the family graves. This is no small undertaking.

We have to go to 5 cemeteries in 5 towns and drive about 80 miles to the furthest one. Of course it was in the mid 90s and way too hot so we were miserable. We got the one in Carterville with the most graves done first. We have 5 graves to decorate there - both from my mom and dad's side of the family - my mom, my maternal first cousin, my maternal grandparents, one maternal great grandmother, and one set of paternal great grandparents. Then it was on to Murphysboro to decorate my my other maternal great grandmother's and maternal great great grandmother's graves. Then we went to Energy to my maternal great grandfather's grave, my paternal grandparents, paternal aunt, my paternal uncle's wife. Then it was on to Herrin and my step mom's and step grandparent's graves. We ended up in Marion at my husband's parent's graves. We could not find his grandmother's and great grandmother's graves. My MIL had taken me there before and I thought I knew where they were but apparently not. I feel really bad about it.

It took us around 8 hours. We were drinking lots of fluids and took food to eat in the car but I still got dehydrated and sick. I shouldn't have taken my B.P. med before going. We stopped at my MIL's house to check on it and said hello to her best friend but could not stay long as I felt too bad. We ate on the way home. By the time I got home I was miserable and took a bath and went to bed.

Today my son had to work. I guess on the way out of the drive way he ran over one of our turtles and killed it so I'm not too happy. It was miserable hot again today so hubby and I limited our time outdoors. I had to clean up the mess from the grave decorating and pack all the leftover flowers and supplies away again. I did some decluttering. I made some chicken soup to get some extra fluids in and it was good. I also made a pork butt in the crock pot and some slaw for the holiday tomorrow .

I always think of you on Memorial Day decorating like you do. Sorry to read that you didn't feel well. With BP on top of the heat - phew, that's a recipe for ___. Fill in the blank.
I agree with Suzymobile. emoticon emoticon
I'm up Yonder North and it's overcast and nippy compared to home. Miss you! I've got lots to catch up on 'round here.

How good of you to visit all the family graves. Ours are in Ohio, except for my Steve.
Sorry about your turtle and the heat-hope it gets to a seasonalby warm instead of intolerably hot.

So sorry to hear about the turtle. We're having HOT weather, too, but supposed to cool off by Wed. You sure had quite the day today. Great that you still go to cemetaries. My folks are buried about 1 1/2 hr. away. I have a mini lilac bush and hydrangea planted, but we stopped by a couple of weeks ago to clean the gravestone & make sure the plants were okay. We'll go again in the fall to take care of things again.

M" I am so sorry about the Turtle I imagine Ian is too.
I had my tree to remember my mother with and I did think a great deal about family who have passed.
There is no-one left in our area of England to tend graves that is the reason so many are choosing cremation these days it is by now the choice of all the remaining relatives I know about.

I hope by now you are rested and feeling better. It was cool here in Maine. DH and I went to Bridgton Maine to spend the weekend with Another spark friend and her DH. We all had a nice time together. My Spark fiend and i did a brisk three mile walk and the weather 75 miles from our home was much warmer. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon COMFORTING HUGS for you Dear emoticon You are a beautiful friend. Pat in Maine.

What a day you had! I'm afraid if we tried to decorate graves today, we'd have to hope a flight real soon, to New Jersey, Niagara Falls, and Seattle. Other than that, my relatives ended up as ashes over the ocean. Maybe our best bet is to go to the ocean today. The Gulf Coast isn't exactly the right place, but maybe part of them ended up here.

I bet Ian feels awful about the turtle, too. RIP, turtle!

It's terribly hot here too! We need a break--if even a short one! I am feeling so sad today thinking of my dad. I wish I was closer to his grave--pretty sure my brother won't decorate it! OMG! I gasped when I read about your turtle!! I am so sorry! Try to rest today?? Have a good one!!!

Sorry about the turtle. You are a very good person. I don't even know where my father's grave is and have no intention of ever going. My kids are not interested either. I do feel sorry for my mom's grave, but since she is beside him that won't happen either.

You had more of a busy day than I did. 4 walks with the dog for me before 9:30am when my dad and I went to church. Then we went to Target to do some walking inside and he had to get a couple of his meds. It got close to 100 degrees here in central Illinois. And I just so happened wore a black dress (see profile pic) on a day when it was hot. Wore the same dress a month ago today for a cousin's funeral and it was a cold day. I feel like I didn't take a shower to get rid of the sweat because I'm still soaked with sweat. Hope that you get to feeling better soon.
