Hyperosmia???

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Hubby and were gone all day and when we came home..........................
the fish stink was still here. Hubby doesn't notice it that much or he denies it. Hubby mopped the floor twice but the funk won't leave. I'm going to break out the big guns soon, whatever they are. I intend to get rid of this smell and if can't I am burning the house down. LOL. I have heard that vanilla helps and also charcoal.

Hope you have been able to get rid of the stench by now. I used ZorbX here when we first bought our house and it was wonderful!!

    Great suggestions !!!
I use ZorbX or Odor Out.
They use it for musty basements and works tremendously to get rid of any odor....Cooking fish, Cig Smoke etc.

It could be anywhere lurking you might be surprised to find an area that was inadvertently missed.

I hear you. If hyperosmia is hypersmelling, then Gilda and my daugher have it, too. Gilda accidentally burned hummingbird food on the stove and tore her house apart trying to get rid of the burny smell. Maybe women are more sensitive?

In addition to vinegar, you may want to try tea tree, lemon, and/or lavender essential oils in your cleaning solution to disinfect and deodorize.

Stinky stuff always hangs around longer than nice smells - doesnt it. DH may have become immune to it. (some people have all the luck!)

There may be another missing something...somewhere. Good luck with the new fridge

You could also try vinegar. If the odor is the opposite base, it might work.

    Go to Arm and hammer.com

They advertise deodorising all the time. I use it on carpets and I pour it down drains with vinegar but I usually do not make a paste with it. I buy a huge bag does the pool in Sam's I keep a couple of bags on hand for all kinds of uses. I always keep about 1/4 cup at the bottom of the kitchen garbage can. When the bag is removed if it still is clean I put in a fresh bag. Then I use the sink sprayer to add hot water and scrub it around inside. My grandkids were appalled I scrub garbage cans. I told them io scrub toilet bowls to and they gave me your response EEEWWWWW!!!
HUGS It will go away just not fast enough. HUGS Pat in Maine.

You'll get rid of it! We had to deal with sort of the same thing when the dogs ran out the back door- right after a skunk. They got sprayed and before we realized it they came into the house. It reeked for quite a while, maybe a month and still lingered after that..

You might try vinegar. I have co-workers that swear by it to get pet urine smells from concrete, so it's gotta be a decent-sized gun.

(Was going to try and joke about vinegar + fish and chips, but thought I had better not...)

Never heard the word but feel badly that you're dealing with another problem. I would definitely google the problem--I have found many answers that way. What did I do before google??? I would lay my money on the vinegar and/or baking soda. Hope you get an answer. Did you get your new refrigerator?

Icktastic. Vinegar and Baking Soda seem to cut through most anything but sometimes it takes several applications. Get some Febreze air refresher in the meantime - that stuff really does work miracles on the short term!

What kind of floor do you have? i.e. how porous is the flooring material?

Leave a light layer of whatever cleaner won't hurt it (lysol, pinesol, vinegar, bleach) on it, a small pond, overnight.

I thought there used to be a product that came in a very small bottle I think it was called NILODOR or something like that we used to have it in case an animal died in one of the microwave sites.
