A doctor noticed!

Friday, June 08, 2012

I had an annual visit to one of my many doctors, and he did a quick calculation when he saw my chart. He praised me for my weight loss from a year ago to the day. Sure made my day! There is a different doctor I need to go to in a few months; it would be almost a year and a half since my last visit to him. He is the one who told me I have to lose loads of weight "or else" I would be heading down the path to a host of medical problems. It will be interesting to see how he reacts. Problem is he sees tons of patients assembly line fashion, and most of the time he spends with me is sitting down looking at my records. He confused me with someone last time and asked me how I was recovering from my heart surgery. I never had heart problems or surgery, for sure! I think there is an excellent chance that he will not even compare my weigh ins. Anyone else have a doctor like this? I would love to get a better one, but it is almost impossible to find one and I have had worse in the past.

Well now I am dumping about gripes I have with this doctor; when I go for checkups I am always weighed in front of other patients who are sitting in a kind of holding pen waiting for an examining room, and the assistant loudly calls out my weight. I don't need additional humiliation to being fat! Honest, I see those people look up at me when my weight is called.

Congrats on losing the weight *and* the doctor noticing! I'm hoping my doctor notices when I go for a check-up in another six months.

I agree that you should find a new doctor. I am in the process of looking for a new one myself. My other doctor wasn't "negligent" or anything, but I realized that information I communicated to the nurse when I called in was never noted in my charts and I would have to repeat everything each time I called. I worred about miscommunication and the possible bad implications from that.

The doctor who doesn't know you, the conditions or surgery you have or have had - is DANGEROUS! iF HE IS SO CARELESS - READ "CARE LESS" you do need to find someone who actually gets it right. If you HAVE TO keep him, express your concern when you go in the door. He sounds like a money receptacle, not a doctor. If he's just looking at records, they may be someone else's - or he may have entered the wrong info in yours at the tail end of a too busy day. Oooooh, so risky. Scary. Eeeew. God bless you - and you can do better than that doctor.(Don't forget - medical records follow you throughout your life, and can affect your employability. If there is a history of a heart condition or heart surgery ERRONEOUSLY on any of your records, it could make you uninsureable and therefore not able to be hired by potential employers. That is really serious - I would demand a complete copy of my medical records from that doctor!!!!)

That's awesome that a doctor noticed and also took the time to praise you for your weight loss! That is just so cool! Hang on to that moment! You deserve the praise!
