The Devil Made Me Do IT

Sunday, July 22, 2012

The truth is that if there is no rest for the wicked then I must be the devil. LOL.

It has still been hot muggy and DRY here. Will it ever rain again??????!!! Who knows. Every day is the same weather-wise. Gives new meaning to the phrase SSDD. LOL.

Thursday we were able to get Porkie, Bun, and Squeaker to the exotic vet. Hubby took off work to go with me as it would be an all day job. I got as much done as I could at home before we left at 11 A.M. The traffic in St. Louis is really bad right now due to road work. The interstate right on the other side of the bridge in Missouri is one lane traffic. Insane. So our usual trip can take 3.5 to 4 hours. We got into Missouri in time to stop and get some gas and Subway sandwiches to take with us to the hospital. When we arrived we were about an hour early for our appointment at 2:30 but they had us fill out tons of forms and we didn't get to eat. The vet examined the crew. Bun did not want him to examine Squeaker and she was snapping and trying to defend Squeaker. It was a stellar example of a middle aged woman defending her child. I loved it and the vet was amused. The two chinchillas knew what was coming for both of them. They don't understand that it helps them. Bun and Squeaker were not real bad but Porkie had torn up his jaw pretty bad from his bad teeth. Porkie has never had surgery but they all needed it and the vet started right away. We finally got to eat at 3 P.M. and the vet was done with the surgery by 5. The vet gave them all pain meds before we left for home. We headed back to Illinois and stopped at Petsmart to get some food and grabbed some food to go at Culver's. On the way home Bun was goofy from the effects of the anesthesia and would make a clockwise circle and jump on Squeakers back and then repeat over and over again. LOL. We got home by 8 P.M. and I was exhausted. Bun was better by that time and they both groomed themselves. Squeaker was drooling a little bit but was pretty calm post op. Later when Bun sobered up she was mad but Squeaker let me rub her neck. Bun got in the food bowl fairly quick. And they were both able to eat. Poor little Porkie felt pretty bad. I got him out and held him and put him in bed with me and he was content. The next day hubby spoon fed the girls and they came to get their snacks. Porkie refused his and I had to start syringe feeding him. I tried every hour and he finally took a few syringes of food. He held it with his little hands. I babied him all day and held him a lot. Hubby fed all of them some too when he got home.

Friday I had to take care of the post op crew while trying to catch up on all my chores inside and outside that needed done in every possible area. I did so much I won't even go into it. The place was a mess. Hours and hours of work. Hubby finally got around to leveling my grill when he got home from work.

Saturday hubby and I had to go to his mom's to check on the place. The grass is still pretty dead looking but the weeds are growing so we spent a long time outside pulling weeds and making it look better. We wee soaked as it was hot. The realtor has suggested dropping the price so we want it to look nice as it may get more interest. We spot cleaned the carpet and I cleaned the sunroom which was full of dead bugs. We hauled off two loads of weeds and trash. We ate on the way home at Long John Silver's as we didn't take time to eat lunch. We got home at 8 P.M. We syringe feed the pets before and after we got home.

Today hubby and I cleaned up a huge mess in the yard that was left from moving the concrete slab, putting the grill together, and cleaning out the grill shelter. I moved most of the things back under the grill shelter and we burned a lot of trash. Hubby used the pressure washer to wash more of the outdoor furniture. We cleaned out and filled the fountains, bird baths, feeders. I had to water all my plants around the house and hubby had to water the blueberries. We still have a few things to do but it is starting to look better. The pets are doing better every day - Porkie took his snack today.

We have a rodent in the house. Ugh. He/she helped himself/herself to an apple. Must be a vegan. LOL. We have ants and fruit flies too. I'm not happy about the pests and hubby and I are on a mission to rid ourselves of them. We also have a bad yellow jacket problem outside. Hubby is trying to hunt down their nest but in the meantime I got nailed twice today. My stargazer lilies are blooming.

My shingles are getting better. It looks like the center of a bulls eye now. My MRSA and arthritis seem a little better too. I'm not as tired.

My turtles are still coming a lot to the turtle buffet. The little girl I have named Strawberry is so cute. She came today and wanted food pretty bad but didn't want to hang around us too much as we were working in the area. She kind of slid into the feeding station, stuck her head over the edge, grabbed a huge chunk of cantaloupe ,and was carrying it off. I showed hubby and he laughed. It was bigger than her head. Strawberry always carries off food to her bed.

My husband got shingles a year or so ago and it was on his nose, forehead, and in his eye. It damaged his eye and the tear duct scarred so he is constantly wiping his bad eye. Since I only have one eye I call us "Two one eyed Jacks". I hope you are feeling better now. Thanks for being you..

Busy as usual! So glad surgery went well and the babies are healing up! That is a lot of work!! You are such a good mama and nurse!!! Hope MILs house sells soon--eliminating those trips would be great! Have you had the tag sale yet? We had rain over the weekend--heaven!!! Of course, we could still use lots more. My BIL is still here--he's gone every day though. He's attending a conference so we're not seeing a lot of him. But, still able to get in some visiting! Had engagement party for son/fiance yesterday. Lots of fun but, sadly, her parents got stuck in Chicago and didn't make it. I felt so awful for her and her parents!! Have a good day! So happy you seem to be feeling better!!

Woman, before I read this I was moping to myself about how I needed at least another day to recover from my weekend. I think I feel twice as exhausted just reading all this! :-) 900 miles on the road and the heat stress involved looks like nap time in comparison! Hang in there hon, and no moving mountains this week, okay???

You could try this remedy for the ants: get some tansy (its getting ready to bloom now - big tall yarrow-sort of looking stuff), dry it and sprinkle it around where they come in.

Fruit flies are the bane of my existence in the summer.

Pets are so much work and money - I swear, half my trips to the grocery are for them rather than for me., and more expensive, too! Worth it, though.

No resst for the wicked, huh? Hmm...I wonder if that's why I'm still up...

I'm so glad that you're starting to feel better!! Sounds like things are getting caught up where you are, then maybe you can rest. I'm glad that the chinchillas are doing well after their surgery.
One of these days you have to post a picture of the turtles carrying big pieces of melon off!

Glad to hear that you got your little babies taken care of and that they are recuperating well.

I had those cicada killers come back again this year and called out the big guns, an exterminator. I'm not dealing with them again.
