I AM FINALLY LOSING WEIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 years of maintaining around 150-155, I am down around 145lbs!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy, I don't really know what to do, say, think. I just wanted to share my joy with Sparkpeople, and from there? Maintain my diet, maintain my exercise program, and get down to goal weight?? OMG, goal weight!!

So, I just went on a long trip, which included 3 and a half weeks of work at an academic summer camp on a college campus in Rhode Island. Right before I left, I had a really intense pep talk with my personal trainer. That provoked my decision to let go of sugar, just for now.

So, during camp, I didn't touch the desserts in the cafeteria. I didn't touch the ice cream, or the mounds of cake and other goodies. I ate 100% sugar free, and probably 90% gluten free. And now?

Well, I stepped on my home scale this morning after not weighing myself for about a week, and it said....145lbs!!!!!

This is an incredible victory for me, as I have been STUCK at 150lbs since I stopped bingeing two years ago. After I got over my binge eating disorder, I lost about 30lbs. HOWEVER, I stopped losing around 150lbs, and thought I'd be stuck there forever.

Wow, I feel great. Now, to get groceries for a good lunch, and then it's off to the gym this afternoon.

The research shows that having a plan for having the offending substance in some way down the line (a small amount in a controlled situation to get used to it) is better for reducing consumption than swearing off forever. I'm glad you said "for now." You'll find the way you need to have it, but it probably won't be that often.

I heard the other day that scientists believe that early human beings ate the equivalent of only about 22 teaspoons of sugar a year! I won't promise to go that low but none on weekdays has been working for me for a couple of years.

BTW, kudos to you for ending bingeing. emoticon

Sugar really is poison - our bodies are so much happier without it! (Our tastebuds... well... fortunately we know better than they do, haha!)

Keep up the great work, and don't forget to focus on your "healthiest weight" rather than just your goal weight. Hopefully the two coincide!

    Thank you for this.

You've inspired me. I've been stuck at 195-205 for two years now. I know sugar has been a burden in this for a while.

I think it's time to detox from sugar. Suggestions/tips? Taper? Cold turkey?

    Again, thanks for sharing

Congratulations!! You are doing so well. Giving up sugar is really hard. If you can do that, I bet there isn't anything that can stop you!! Thanks for inspiring me to try a little harder, too, to get off the sweets. -Marsha

I have been kicking around the idea of going sugar-free (processed sugar), and I think you've inspired me. I've been hovering around the mid-150's for eons (which lately has crept up to the upper 150's), so it's time for a change...

    Amazing job!!

VERY impressive!! I just don't know if I could bite that same bullet. Every tooth in my head is a sweet tooth! Did you at least do any fruits so you could have smoothies? That may be my only salvation were I to try your plan.

emoticon That's so awesome! You should be so proud of yourself for sticking to your sugar-free program even while being away and in tough conditions! That's really great! And you got your reward- losing 5 lbs!! That's amazing! emoticon

About a week ago, I decided to start eating Primal/Paleo which means giving up sugar and grains. I decided to give it a try for 30 days and see how I feel! So far I'm doing well! We'll see :)
