Day Five Report

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Hi all!!!
I had another "on track" day today, and I even fit in a glass of red wine with dinner (but 3.5 oz. is a small glass!!!).
I ran in a 5K for my town's Summerfest today. I made the mistake of chatting it up with friends waiting for the race to start and not getting close to the start of the pack. I forgot that the race has a gun start, not chip start too, so I was walking for the first 0.1-0.15 mile before I realized that I wasn't going over a sensor to start, and that I better start running....doh!!!!
I decided to have more of a fun run at that point, and slowed down a couple of times to chat with people I knew, instead of passing them by. I am not sure what my time was, it isn't posted on the website yet, hopefully it will be tomorrow.
After I did the 1 mile fun run with the family, which turned into a 0.1 mile run and 0.9 mile carry after my (30 lb) almost two year-old fell while running. I think he would have rum the whole thing if it hadn't been for that fall!!!
I ate meals at weird times today because of the race, but stayed on track. I was tempted to snack this evening, but instead drank a can of sparkling water and painted my toenails (which are ALMOST recovered from my marathon...just lost the last one today!!).
I have a running question...... I am doing a half marathon the last weekend of September and in mid-October, do you think it would be too much to do another one a week later?!?!?
It would be 3 half marathons in a little over 3 weeks.
I am doing a long run with my running group in 8.5 hours, so better get to sleep!!!!
Have a good Sunday!!!!

I'm glad you had a fun race day, but sorry your little guy got hurt. He was probably so excited to be like you!
Clearly I am not coming from a place of expertise, but I agree with what others have said about the HMs.... do one or two of them for time and the other one as a fun workout. You are in excellent shape and you're a very fast runner even with long distances, so if you slow it for at least one of them, I think you'd be okay.

Wow! Where have I been? I've totally missed your recent resurgence! Yay Laura, you are doing great. I look forward to keeping better track of you. Keep up the momentum.

Three HMs in 3 weeks Sure, no problem with the mileage you've been putting in. Just don't RACE all of them. Pick one for time and run the rest for fun. That would qualify you as a Half Fanatic, you know... www.halffanatics.com I'm signed up for one every Saturday in September and I'm old enough to be your mother. Just take it easy and you will be so proud of your accomplishment.

I think you could handle the 3 HMs in 3 weeks... just make sure to prioritize hydration, stretching, and don't take it too hard between the races with strength training. Maybe run 2 of them hard for time and 1 of them more as a regular workout at a pace a minute or so slower than your race pace per mile? Either way, I think you could do it if you wanted to! Good luck!

Woah, 3 half marathons?! You are a machine lady! I can only hope to run that far one day haha, I tend to hit a wall after about 40 minutes of it and I've had this irritating issue of my foot going numb lately? Argh! Anyways, you're doing awesome :D 'grats for staying on track and being able to get a cheeky glass on wine in :)

Wow, that's crazy. 3 half marathons?!! I think if your body is in shape for a half marathon that you would be able handle another a week later, but you should probably do easier runs between both races to let your body recover just a little. It sounds like you are in the right shape for it. Good job staying on track with your food! I know it's hard at first but it really works. If it worked for me I know it can work for anybody. I really want to do a half marathon but I don't want to sign up for one just to find out I'm pregnant because my hubby and I are TTC. It's just a confusing time for me right now.
