Painting the Nursery

Thursday, September 20, 2012

My daughter chose this design from one she had seen on the Internet. "Could you possibly pick a more complicated design?" I said. "But that was done by professional painters!" I said. She wouldn't have any of my excuses. This was the nursery she wanted for Baby Mackenzie. Not pale, pastel baby colors. So we started......

The main wall would be pink and white squares set on point. A boder of one row of white squares would continue around the other 3 pink walls. I drew all the squares and taped them off. We used "Frog Tape" for the taping. It was great! The paint only bled under the tape in a few spots. Most of the lines were crisp and clean. At the end of 3 days of drawing, taping and painting, the room looked like this:

Then for the finishing touches........ black diamonds between the squares. More measuring and taping! We added some bling by placing jewels in the center of the diamonds. The main wall finished:

Close up of the bling.......

Border around the other walls:

What little girl doesn't need a closet full of stuff? Another closet unit for Grandma to assemble. At least, I knew how to do it after doing Erik's and this one was smaller, thank goodness! As soon as Sarah saw the closet, she starting putting things in it. She's been going to yard sales and consignment sales. I gave her the little dresses she wore when she was a baby. (I'm a pack rat) The kid isn't even born yet and she has more clothes than I do!

Big brother, Erik, came home from school and saw the pink room:

I told him we could paint the bonus room where he keeps his toys next, as we had plenty of pink paint left. "NO, Grandma, NO!" Guess he didn't want his friends coming over to play in a pink playroom. Can't imagine why.......
