As you know we have been traveling through Queensland in our van for the past few weeks.
We have come home for a few days for the wedding of my niece on the weekend, and then we are heading south - a wedding in Sydney next weekend and then we are going to cross another dream from the bucket list - we are going to the Melbourne Cup!!
Every year we have watched it on TV and every year we have said that ONE DAY we will go - this is the year!! We will be away for about 4 weeks before we come home and prepare for Christmas and I am scheduled to have treatment for my leg veins at the end of November.
It has been really difficult in many of the places we have visited to get Internet access on my iPad - or expensive so I have only been checking in to use the trackers.
My apologies to those who have sent messages and goodies that I haven't replied - we have also made a conscience decision to limit the time we spend on the computer - otherwise I am liable to be sitting in the van on the computer for hours and not outside enjoying the spectacular scenery, sunrises and sunsets we have seen. This trip is all about spending time with each other and exploring together - so far we are having a fabulous time.
We have jokingly referred to ourselves as 'turtles' taking everything we need with us. Our caravan has affectionately been called the 'turtle palace'!
Our first stop was at Bargara, near Bundaberg. We didn't know that we were only 3kms. From the Mon Repos Beach the largest mainland turtle hatchery in Australia - where the mother turtles come onto the beach to lay their eggs every year from November to March.
We took it as a good omen for our adventures in the 'Turtle Palace' that this was our first stop, and the turtle is the iconic symbol of the area.
Even the walkway footpath (sidewalk) was decorated with turtles
And the children's playground had the largest green sea turtle I have ever seen.
We were impressed to see 10,000 steps signs encouraging walkers along the coastal walkway - great to see community efforts to improve exercise and health.
Have a fabulous week - I will check in regularly to keep myself on track.
