Ducks in a Row

Saturday, December 01, 2012

I haven't been exercising...not even walking. Why? Out of terror that my hip will pop out of joint again and because of agonizing pain in my feet.
The good news is that there are finally things in the works which should address all these issues.

1) I am having more hip surgery. While this will knock me backward for a while, in the long run it will be of benefit because--the hope is that it will keep the hip in its socket using an encased joint. It will offer me less mobility but more security. And AFTER the hip surgery, I will have a Physical Therapist who will be able to design an exercise program just for me. THIS time I will be taking advantage of that and will maintain that program once they are gone. I'm ashamed to say that last time I didn't.

2) I"m getting orthotic shoes for Christmas which should address my foot problems and make it possible to walk again without stepping cautiously and painfully as though I'm walking on ground glass....because that is what it feels like.

3)For my birthday this year I'm getting a heart monitor/pedometer/calories burned wristwatch. This will provide valuable information in my fitness program. It will also hopefully provide inspiration for me to move more and take more steps each day.

It will take time, but I'm hoping that once these three things are in place, I will once again be able to do a fitness program that is beneficial to my body and assists my weight loss goals.
I confess I'm terrified when I think of the pain I am going to have to go through with my upcoming hip surgery but it is what is, and I will just have to deal with it when it comes.I think it will help me to look ahead to the time when once again I'm healthy and able to exercise. I will need to pray that I do not get an infection and also that my arthritis does not go crazy once I'm off the Enbrel as I will need to be for the surgery. Barring those issues occurring I should be in good shape for finally being able to work out.

Looks like things are progressing, but boy, I am terrified for you that you may get an infection on a second surgery on the same joint :((
I know that feeling of walking on glass for sure. I first started with orthotics, but ended up having three foot surgeries, but the problem came back :( I use toe cushions, bunion pads and see a podiatrist once a month to clean up the mess of my toes. I hope they can help you..
That is thoughtful thinking of your health in the gifts you are getting :) I hope you can make good use of them!
Make sure you boost your nutrition, lots of citrus & green veggies to protect your health before surgery! Take very good care of yourself!

God will be with you. My prayer will be with you. I know you will have a long recovery time. But each and every day you will feel better. And you know the key, the right exercise for you. everyone can't do everything. I can not jump rope or ride a bike etc. So you follow the program your doctor provides. Everything will be alright. Wishing you a speedy recovery . emoticon
