Challenge question #6

Specific question #6: Do you need some motivation or advice? Ask for it!

Since I don’t take advice, I’m not going to ask for it. People are welcome to offer opinions, of course, but ultimately, I must make my own choices. And I expect others to make their own choices.

Someone commented one day that I should consider using a slow cooker. It’s a great suggestion. However, it wouldn’t work for me with my current lifestyle. I could have a great meal going, and I could be stuck at work an extra hour or 24 (yeah, I have THAT kind of job). One day last week, I ended up taking a client to the emergency room. We got there at 5 pm, and I didn’t leave until 10:30 pm. I still had to take the van back and pick up my car, and also talk to the staff at the client’s house. I didn’t get home until midnight. I ended up eating at the hospital, because one of the nurses let me make sandwiches. I know a slow cooker uses low heat and cooks gently, but I think there would come a point where the food is inedible or the device starts a fire.

Flexibility is key for me to succeed in any goal. I can’t rigidly think I will be able to leave work at 5 pm and have dinner on the table at 6 pm and be in bed by 10 pm. It just doesn’t happen that way for me. And I’m okay with that.

Yep, what works for some will not work for others. You have to find your own place!

You are right: if we are rigid in our routines and methods eventually we encounter situations we can't deal with. Flexibility and adaptability are all!

Wow, flexibility is right! What a job. Bless you for being able to juggle that and still find a way to make healthy choices. I'm not so sure I'd do so well in your situation. I guess that's why I'm not in it!! Keep up the creative thinking and finding what works for you! It's an inspiration to those of us who are tempted to complain about lesser things. Namely me.

Suggestions are made with the best of intentions -- but you are so right -- they don't always work for each of us. I think slow cookers are great, I use mine on the weekends but not during the week because I don't have time in the morning to put everything together -- but it would be wonderful to come home after work and have dinner ready!
