Sonoma Diet (Mediterranean Diet)
Thursday, April 18, 2013
So I was at Barnes and Noble and picked up The New Sonoma Diet from the bargain books section (it was only $5!). I had heard of this diet before that it was more of a healthy lifestyle rather than a diet and had also just watched a special on the news about the benefits of eating a mediterranean diet. The Sonoma Diet has the same principles of a mediterranean diet except she organizes it into waves.
I really like this 'diet' because it doesnt feel like a diet at all. The gist of it is... eat more fruits and vegetables and lean meats/fish, and incorporate healthy fats (olive oil, almonds) into your diet. This was pretty easy to follow. I have a little more trouble because I am usually driving from place to place for work and dont usually get to eat lunch in the office and will pick something up along the way (fast food). But I still try to follow as much as possible. I frequent El Pollo Loco for their side salad and a chicken carbon taco. But other than weekday lunch its a piece of cake!
I did my best to follow wave 1 although I did allow myself a glass of wine even though you are not supposed to have until wave 2. I lost about 3 pounds in the first 10 days which was great!
Im not so much following the waves though as just the main principles of the 'diet.' Unfortunately I have had a lot of dinners with friends I havent seen in a long time and have let myself cheat a little too much :(
With that said- I need to get back on track and just eat the good, yummy foods that the book talks about. When I was more strictly following the diet in wave 1 I also felt like I had a lot more energy, and wasnt starving or had cravings... I think this Mediterranean diet/Sonoma diet idea is really workable, of as with any diet or healthy eating plan... you stick to it!! Im planning a beach vacation in a couple months so I better get back on track!!
